Hadhrat Sukaina (May Allah shower His Mercy on her)

 Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him) has been blessed with 6 sons and 3 daughters.  Among these pious ladies is Hadhrat Sukaina (May Allah shower His Mercy on her).  Her mother’s name was Rubaab bint Imraul Qais bin ‘Adi bin Aus Al Kalbi.  Imraul Qais had embraced Islam in the caliphate of Hadhrat ‘Umar (May Allah be well pleased with him).  After that, Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) sought the hand of Hadhrat Rubaab for Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with them).  Thus, she was married to the Imam and she bore him a son, Hadhrat ‘Abdullah and a daughter, Hadhrat Sukaina (May Allah shower His Mercy on them).  Almighty Allah made her the epitome of both outward and inward beauty.  She was blessed with high morals and the best character.  She had no peer.  (Bidayah Wan Nihayah, Vol. 8, Pg. No. 229)

 

Her marriage:  Hadhrat Sukaina (May Allah shower His Mercy on her) was married to the son of Hadhrat ‘Abdullah, the son of Hadhrat Imam Hasan (May Allah be well pleased with them).  Hadhrat ‘Abdullah (May Allah be well pleased with him) was martyred a short time later.  Then, Hadhrat Sukaina (May Allah shower His Mercy on her) was married to Mus’ab bin Zubair (May Allah be well pleased with them).  Hadhrat Mus’ab (May Allah be well pleased with him) gave 100,000 Dirham as the dower of Hadhrat Sukaina (May Allah shower His Mercy on her).  Hadhrat Imam Zain Ul A’abideen (May Allah be well pleased with him) escorted her to the groom’s house and Hadhrat Mus’ab (May Allah be well pleased with him) gave him 40,000 Dinar as a gift.  As is related in Noor Ul Absaar Fi Fadhaaili Ahli Baitin Nabiyyil Mukhtaar, Pg. No. 193.

 

Hadhrat Sukaina (May Allah shower His Mercy on her) bore Hadhrat Mus’ab (May Allah be well pleased with him) a son, who was named ‘Abdullah and a daughter, who was named Rubaab.  Rubaab bint Mus’ab was so beautiful even as a child that Hadhrat Sukaina (May Allah shower His Mercy on her) would put a necklace of pearls around her neck and would say:  My daughter is so beautiful that the even pearls pale before her.

 

The scholarly and literary abilities of Hadhrat Sukaina (May Allah shower His Mercy on her)

 

In every era, the elite women of our nation have been great masters of knowledge and poetry and eloquence.  Hadhrat Sukaina (May Allah shower His Mercy on her) had absolute mastery over oratory and eloquence.  The famous poets of the era like Firzouq, Katheer, Nusaib and Jameel would also come to her to improve their verses and she would remove any defect in their works.  If the work was valuable, she would reward them.
