A wife should be grateful to the husband

A wife should be grateful to the husband

Mercy or blessings means solace of the heart, pleasure and approval of Almighty Allah, the bounties of the hereafter, etc.  Its opposite is curse or condemnation.

It is mentioned in the Holy Quran and the Hadith that the enemies of Allah and disbelievers have been cursed.  With this itself we can understand how bad this is.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has said that the angels curse that woman as well who displeases her husband with her speech or deeds.  Men and women have been created to complete each other.  If the wife refuses to fulfill the needs of the husband, then she is not fulfilling the rights of the marriage, which she had promised at the time of the marriage.  As is mentioned in the Hadith:

Translation:  It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  If the husband calls his wife and she doesn’t come and on this account, the husband is displeased with her for the whole night, then the angels curse that woman till dawn.  (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 3237)

Those women for whom the husband is nothing more than a boyfriend and due to this, they deny the rights of the husband, they should think reflect carefully so that they realize the status of the husband.

The wife should be thankful to the husband

Thankfulness is that attribute which is found even in animals.  Human beings have been specially instructed to cultivate this attribute.  The husband does many favors to the wife although the husband isn’t permitted to term them as such.  He safeguards the person and possessions of the wife.  He is the guard of her chastity and honor.  He provides her the basic necessities of life and works hard for this purpose.  If the wife isn’t thankful to her husband, then she cannot be thankful to anyone else.

Being thankful to the husband is mentioned in this Hadith:

Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr (May Allah be pleased with them) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  Almighty Allah doesn’t look at that woman with mercy who is ungrateful to her husband even though she cannot be independent of her husband.  (Mustadrak ‘Alas Sahihain, Hadith No. 2721)

Here what is meant by ungratefulness is that she doesn’t remember the favors of the husband and doesn’t express it, but thinks that it was all the responsibility of the husband.  Islam teaches its women to be grateful to their husbands and to take care of them with love and affection.
