Etiquettes of clothing

It is mentioned in Hadith that the person who can wear fine clothes and due to humility, for the sake of Almighty Allah, that person forsakes them then it becomes compulsory for Almighty Allah that this person be granted the garments of paradise in highly beautiful tray.

Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) says: Almighty Allah has taken a promise from the Imams of guidance that their clothes should be like those of commoners so that the rich folk imitate them and the poor are not heartbroken.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  The person who wears a garment through which he (or she) garners fame in this world, then for as long as that garment is worn. Almighty Allah remains displeased with that person, even though it might be correct.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) told Hadhrat ‘Aisha (May Allah be well pleased with her):  If you want to remain with me on the Day of Judgment, then remain content with the provision of the hereafter in the world and don’t change garments until you patch them.

People counted 14 patches in the garment of Hadhrat ‘Umar (May Allah be well pleased with him).  The value of the garment of Hadhrat Sufyan Thauri, along with his shoes, was a little more than 1 Dirham.

People asked Hadhrat Salman Farsi (May Allah be well pleased with him):  Why don’t you wear fine clothes?  He replied:  What has a slave got to do with fine clothes?  Tomorrow, if I am pardoned, I will not lack fine clothes.

Hadhrat ‘Umar bin ‘Abdul ‘Azeez (May Allah shower His mercy on him), the Umayyad caliph, had a coarse garment, which he would wear when offering Salaat at night.  At day, he would discard it so that people wouldn’t know.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  The person who dresses up to show off, on the Day of Judgment, Almighty Allah will clothe him (or her) with a garment of debasement and will light it with the fire of hell.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) also said:  Some women wear clothes for formality sake, but in fact they are nude.  These kind of women will neither enter paradise nor will they smell its fragrance.
