Shariah rulings for women suffering from menorrhagia (II)

Shariah rulings for women suffering from menorrhagia (II)

[The first part of this series ran here.  This is the second part]

It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat ‘Aisha (May Allah be well pleased with her), she says that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) was asked about women who have abnormal menstrual bleeding.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  A lady who had regular menses before this condition should not offer Salaat on those very days when having abnormal menstrual bleeding.  After those days, she should take a bath (Ghusl) and make a flesh ablution for every Salaat.  This is related by Ibn Hibban in his Sahih with rigorously authenticated chain of narration.

It is narrated on the authority of the mother of the believers Hadhrat ‘Aisha (May Allah be well pleased with her) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) told Fatima bint Jahsh (when she was having abnormal menstrual bleeding) to make a fresh ablution for every Salaat.  This is related by our Imam Abu Hanifa (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) and similarly by Imam Muhammad in Asl.

It is mentioned in the Hadith of Bukhari and Tirmidhi that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) told a lady suffering from abnormal menstrual bleeding:  You make a ablution for Salaat until the time for the next Salaat starts (i.e. when the time for offering the next Salaat comes, make a fresh ablution even though nothing to invalidate the first ablution might have happened).

It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Umme Salamah (May Allah be well pleased with her) that Umme Habeeba bint Jahsh (May Allah be well pleased with her) suffered from this condition.  She asked the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) about this and He ordered her to take a bath before every Salaat.  This is related by Sa’eed bin Mansoor.  Tahawi has related a similar Hadith.

It is mentioned in a Hadith of Ibn Majah:  Then you take a bath and make a (fresh) ablution for every Salaat.

The same is mentioned in a Hadith of Muslim on the authority of Hadhrat ‘Aisha (May Allah be well pleased with her).

It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Umme Habeeba (May Allah be well pleased with her) suffered from this condition for years.  She would sit in a vessel filled with water so much so that the color of the water would change due to the flow.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  This is not menses.  It is blood from a particular blood vessel.  Thus, Hadhrat Umme Habeeba (May Allah be well pleased with her) would take a bath for every Salaat.  This is related by Sa’eed bin Mansoor and Imam Tahawi and ‘Abdur Razzaq have related similarly.
