What if a pregnant lady sees blood in her pregnancy or before delivery?

 

In light of the aforementioned Hadith, the author of Hidaayah has clarified that the blood seen by a pregnant lady in the course of her pregnancy or just before delivery will be considered to be (abnormal) vaginal discharge (and not menstrual blood).  If there is bleeding for a considerable number of days in pregnancy, even that will be considered chronic vaginal discharge.

 

However, Imam Shafa’ee (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) has considered the blood seen before delivery as postnatal bleeding ...., as in the opinion of the Imam the blood seen in postnatal bleeding and the blood seen before delivery both come from the uterus.

 

However, the research of the Hanafi jurists says that the uterus is closed during pregnancy and it opens only after delivery.  Thus, the bleeding in that period is not from the uterus but has some other source.  It is not reasonable to declare that blood as postnatal or menstrual blood.  For this reason, the Hanafi School considers this as abnormal vaginal bleeding.

 

Allah Most High makes menstrual blood the nourishment of the fetus

 

It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him), he says that Allah Most High makes it so that the menstrual blood does not affect the pregnant lady and turns the blood that gathers in the womb into nourishment of the fetus.

 

The translation of the words Tagheedhul Arhaam has been taken from Takmila Majma ‘ul Bihaar.

 

It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbas (May Allah be well pleased with them), he says that Allah Most High stops the (menstrual) blood of the pregnant woman and turns it into nourishment of the fetus.

 

Both these Hadith are narrated by Ibn Shaheen and have been related by the author of Al Jauhar un Naqi.

 

It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Ibrahim (May Allah be well pleased with him), he says that if a pregnant lady sees blood, then she is not menstruating.  She should offer Salaat and fast, and her husband can even have intercourse with her.

 

She can do all those things which a lady who is not in her menses does.

 

This is related by Imam Muhammad (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) in Kitaab Ul Aathaar.
