This is related by Abu Dawood and Tirmidhi.

It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Anas (May Allah be well pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) fixed 40 days for women having postnatal bleeding.  However, if she finds cleanliness before 40 days (i.e. if the bleeding stops before 40 days are completed) she will be considered clean.

It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Hurairah and Abu Darda (May Allah be well pleased with them), they said that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  A woman with postnatal bleeding should wait for 40 days except that she finds cleanliness before 40 days.  If she completes 40 days and does not find cleanliness, she should take a bath and she will be like a Mustahaadha (i.e. a woman with abnormal vaginal bleeding).

This is related by Ibn ‘Adi and Ibn ‘Asakar.

There is a Hadith on the authority of Hadhrat ‘Aisha Siddiqua (May Allah be well pleased with her) about a lady who is pregnant and has bleeding in those days, then her bleeding does not stop her from offering Salaat.  She will be considered to be a woman with abnormal vaginal bleeding.

This is related by Ibn Abi Shaiba in his Musannaf and a group of Hadith-experts have narrated on the authority of the narrators of this Hadith.
