Almighty Allah granted the Ummah 50 Salaat and the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) accepted it. Later, on the insistence of Prophet Moosa (May peace be upon him), the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) requested Almighty Allah for reducing them. A doubt can be raised here that whether Hadhrat Moosa (May peace be upon him) wiser than our Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)?
My friends! You have not looked carefully into this. There was a world of a difference between the states of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and that of Prophet Moosa (May peace be upon him). The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) was immersed in the vision of Almighty Allah which annihilates all intellect and understanding. Contrary to this, Prophet Moosa (May peace be upon him) was away from the vision of Almighty Allah.
What lovers accomplish for mortal love and mortal union and a mortal beloved can be understood with the following examples:
A delicate entity like a woman was so engrossed in the beauty of Prophet Yousuf (May peace be upon him) that she cut her hand and didn’t even realize it.
On seeing Shireen, Farhad dug up an entire mountain.
A pauper girded his loins to empty the ocean on seeing the daughter of a king.
Bearing all these difficulties becomes easier when one is seeing the beloved. When this is the case with mortal love and mortal beloveds, then what to say of the vision of the Ultimate One!
Thus, when the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) was having the vision of Almighty Allah, let alone 50, if Allah Most High had given 50,000 Salaat, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) would have accepted it. Were 50 Salaat more difficult than Farhad’s digging up of the mountain or that pauper’s emptying the ocean? Was Shireen’s beauty greater than that of the Lord Almighty? If Farhad resolves to break up a mountain on seeing Shireen’s beauty and does do it, then what if the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) accepts 50 Salaat and 6 months of fasting on seeing Allah Most High?
When the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) came to Prophet Moosa (May peace be upon him), the effect of the vision had lessened. Then when Prophet Moosa (May peace be upon him) also explained it, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) understood that He was immersed in the vision of the Lord Almighty. The whole Ummah will not be immersed in His vision. Then how can they fulfill such a difficult task?
Thus, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) went back and got the number of Salaat and fasting reduced.
