For protection of life, livestock and agriculture, rearing a dog is permissible. Without these needs, it is impermissible. The <b>Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)</b> has given warning on rearing dogs, that every day from the record of deeds (Naame A’amaal) good deeds will be decreased, but the <b>Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)</b> has given permission for rearing dogs for hunting or protection of livestock against wolves etc. <br /> <br /> There is Hadith in <span style="color: #993300"><b>(Zujajatul Masabeeh of Bukhari and Muslim, Vol. 3, Pg. No. 304)<br /> </b></span><span style="color: #ff0000"><b><br /> Translation of Hadith</b></span>: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abdullah Bin Umar (May Allah be well pleased with them) that the <b>Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)</b> said: Whoever keeps a dog other than a guard dog or hunting dog, daily good deeds worth of 2 “Qeerat” (a unit of measure) will be lessened from the record of deeds.<br />
