Maulana Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi Qadri, Professor, Islamic Law, Jamia Nizamia, Founder-Director Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center, gave a lecture on “Upbringing of children – Principles and methodology” in Masjid Abul Hasanaat, Jahanuma.
The revered Mufti said that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has given principles of upbringing of children as well. If children are brought up as per those principles, then they will not only become perfect individuals but will also be the future of the community and the nation. The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has asked to pay meticulous attention to upbringing of children and has asked not be careless and heedless in this matter.
The revered Mufti quoted verse no. 6 of Surah Tahreem that Almighty Allah has ordered the believers to save themselves and their loved ones from the fire of hell.
When this verse was revealed, Hadhrat ‘Umar (May Allah be well pleased with him) asked the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam): How do we save your loved ones from the fire of hell? The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) answered: Those things which Almighty Allah has prohibited on you, stop your loved ones from them and those things which the Lord Almighty has ordered, order them to do them.
This lecture was arranged under the aegis of Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center in Masjid Abul Hasanaat, Phool Bagh, Jahanuma.
The revered Mufti said that it is one of the prime responsibilities of a believer that he/she himself/herself acts on the commands of the Lord Almighty and makes one’s loved ones also follow them.
Children are a divine gift and a test as well. If they are brought up properly, they will prove to be productive and beneficial and if parents commit lapses in their upbringing, they will be held to account before Almighty Allah.
The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Verily Almighty Allah will ask everyone responsible about that responsibility that whether one has safeguarded it or let it go to rot so much so that one will be asked about one’s household members as well.
The revered Mufti said on the authority of Sahih Bukhari that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Each one is responsible and will be asked about his (or her) subordinates. A ruler is responsible and will be asked about his subjects and a man is responsible for his household and will be asked about his subordinates.
The revered Mufti said that parents and guardians strive for the food and clothing of the children. If the children face any difficulty, they do their utmost to remove it. They cannot bear the agony of their children although the agony and hurt of this world is but temporary. If so much efforts are undertaken to remove a temporary agony, then how much more should the parents be worried if the children go down the path of irreligiousness and libertinism? It is the responsibility of the parents that they should keep a watchful eye on their children. They should safeguard them from bad habits and evil company and provide for them a virtuous atmosphere and teach them high morals.
The revered Mufti said that nowadays in quest of modern knowledge, religious sciences are being ignored due to which the new generation is being deprived of religious education and is becoming unaware of Islamic culture. Subconsciously, they are starting to follow the customs and rituals of other religions/philosophies. Every child who is born is born on Islam. The parents should ensure that they kindle the child’s hidden potential.
When a child is born, Adhaan should be sounded in the child’s ears. The child should be made to taste something sweet. A good name should be given to the child. On the 7th day, ‘Aqeeqa should be performed and the child’s head should be shaved.
The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: First teach your children the declaration of faith (La Ilaaha Illallah…). He (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: You instruct your children in three things: Love of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), love of the Prophet’s Family and recitation of the Holy Quran.
It is highly necessary that the person/s raising children should purify his/her life so that their lives become a model for the children.
The session ended with Salaam and Dua. Maulana Hafidh Syed Ahmed Ghouri, Teacher, Jamia Nizamia, led the proceedings.
