All her outward abilities and inward accomplishments were in fact hereditary. She was one of a kind in terms of character, worship of Allah and spiritual accomplishments. Because of her abilities and accomplishments, Hadhrat Mus’ab (May Allah be well pleased with him) had supplicated Almighty Allah to make her his wife. This supplication was accepted. As mentioned in Bidayah Wan Nihayah and in Al Muntazim Li Ibn Jauzi, Vol. 2, Pg. No. 252, Vol. 2, Pg. No. 393.
Once, later in life, Hadhrat Imam Zain Ul A’abideen (May Allah be well pleased with him) went for Hajj following the habit of Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him), who had performed many ‘Umrah and Hajj. Hadhrat Sukaina (May Allah shower His Mercy on her) spent thousands and arranged a feast for the Imam and gave him provisions for the journey as well. Imam Zain Ul A’abideen (May Allah be well pleased with him) expressed his happiness on it and gave away all of it in charity.
Hadhrat Sukaina (May Allah shower His Mercy on her) expressed her love by arranging the feast and the Imam gave the lesson of selflessness by giving away his provisions to the poor folk. This is a lesson and an advice for Muslim women that when a relative start on a journey, it is our familial and moral responsibility that we arrange for their comfort as much as we can, be it through gift of money or through arrangement of comforts. This also shows the great love that she had for her brother, the Imam, Zain Ul A’abideen. She has shown that for kind treatment of one’s relatives, one shouldn’t hesitate from spending one’s wealth. The above incident has been related in Sifat Us Safwah, Vol. 1, Pg. No. 195.
The role of Hadhrat Sukaina (May Allah shower His Mercy on her) in propagating Islamic sciences
Hadhrat Sukaina (May Allah shower His Mercy on her) was a noble descendant of the Prophet’s illustrious family. She also strove to spread the light of Islamic knowledge in the world. She participated in the propagation of Hadith as well. Apart from this, she also passed on to her students the knowledge that she had received from her own family. Hadith related by her are found in the canons of Hadith. As an example one Hadith is being mentioned here:
Translation: Hadhrat Sukaina (May Allah shower His Mercy on her) relates on the authority of Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: On the Day of Judgment, the people who have knowledge of the Holy Quran will be those who have the gnosis (Ma’arifah) of Almighty Allah. (M’ojam Kabeer Tabarani, Vol. 2, Pg. No. 216; Hadith No. 2831)
Her demise
She benefited the classes and masses with her knowledge and spirituality for a long period of time. She kept purifying the hearts and selves of the populace. She gave herself up for the service of Islam. Eventually on 5 Rab’ee Ul Awwal, 126 Hijri, on Thursday, she passed away from this ephemeral world to the eternal worlds. Most of the historians have written that she passed away in Madina and is buried in Jannatul Baq’ee.
