Adhaan (the call of prayer) is Compulsory Sunnah (Sunnah) to fulfill the 5 obligatory Salaat of the day. It is among the great signs of Islam. It is necessary for one and all to revere and honor it. Disrespecting it is tantamount to disrespecting Islam itself.
Imam Kasani (May Allah shower His mercy on him) writes in this regard:
Translation: Adhaan is among the signs of Islam and giving Adhaan is a proof of embracing Islam. (Bada’i Us Sana’i, Kitab Us Siyar)
Similar opinions have been expressed by many Fuqaha (jurists), which include Abul Laith Samarqandi Hanafi, the author of Fatawa An Nawaazil (Dec. 375 Hijri), ‘Allama Ibn Qudama Hambali, (Dec. 620 Hijri), the commentator of Sahih Muslim, Imam Nawawi Shafa’ee (Dec. 676 Hijri), the jurist of the Maliki school of thought, ‘Allama Ahmed Bin Muhammad Saavi (Dec. 1241 Hijri), ‘Allama Ibn A’abideen Shaami Naqshbandi (Dec. 1252 Hijri), may Allah showers His mercy on all of them, and many others.
There are lot of things in a movie which are prohibited by the Shariah like indecency, songs and dance, lying, deception, extravagance and so on. For all these reason, films have been judged to be impermissible and forbidden.
The movie made with the title “Adhaan” is tantamount to diminishing the greatness of the laws of Islam. Adhaan (or Azaan) is a legal word and is a valued word of Islamic law. Through this, the people are invited to that form of worship which stops one from all indecencies and evils. As given in the Holy Quran:
(O Esteemed Beloved!) Recite that Book which has been revealed to you and establish Prayer. Surely Prayer prohibits indecency and impiety; and verily the remembrance of Allah is the greatest. And Allah knows whatever (deeds) you do. Surah Ankabut (29:45)
In light of all this, a film, which has all kinds of indecencies, song and dance sequences, etc. should not be named “Azaan.” Islamic law does not permit it, logic does not support such a thing and neither is it correct as per the law of the land. Our country is a democracy. It cannot permit anyone to insult the religion of Islam. Thus, those at the helm should take legal steps to stop people from doing so.
