Salaat - What happens if we leave Salaat

Whatever deeds we perform are in fact a kind of dealing with Allah Ta’ala.

Alas!  We consider Salaat as a chore because we aren’t aware of its reality.  If we consider this also to be a kind of dealing in which we give some thing and in lieu of it take some thing else, then Salaat will never be a burden and will neither be offered as a mere ritual, but rather the way a trader polishes and makes the product attractive and then gives it to the buyer, in the same way we will also offer Salaat in the best possible manner.

One of the special excellences of Salaat is that all other articles of Islam were made obligatory upon the earth; whereas Salaat was made obligatory in the blessed night of Meraj upon the ‘Arsh and in the Holy Quran no command for any other form of worship has occurred with such frequency the way Salaat is emphasized and stressed repeatedly..  True Muslims are those who are regular in offering Salaat punctually.

When Salaat was made compulsory, Satan gave a terrible cry.  All the other devils gathered around him.  Satan informed others about this and advice was sought and at last it was decided that as much as possible people should be prevented from offering Salaat altogether or offering Salaat in the Mustahab (Commendable) time.  They should be busied in affairs of the world so much that they don’t get time at all to offer Salaat.

If this isn’t possible, then the thought should be cast into the heart of the person offering Salaat that he/she should keep looking here and there while offering Salaat and devils should crowd around that person and each of them should encourage him/her to look at them.

If this is also not possible, then at least the thought to offer Salaat hurriedly should be cast in to the heart.

We don't have minutest concern for the commands of Allah Ta'ala and His beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam).  We are immersed in fulfillment of our base desires and are neglecting such a beautiful thing as Salaat.  Among us there are many who don't offer Salaat at all and those who do offer it offer it in a slapdash manner, like the pecking of a cock, neither the prostration is proper nor the Ruku!  Some offer Salaat, but without congregation, deserting the Masjid.  Do you know what will be the end result of such worshippers?  They will be thrown in "Ghai."  It is a valley in hell from which even the hell seeks refuge a thousand times each day.  There is a well in it, called as Hub Hub.  When the fires of hell start cooling down, the mouth of this well is opened and the fires of hell are blazed again.  In this well, sinners like fornicators, drunks, usurer, those who give false witness, those who abandon Salaat, those who don’t offer Salaat with congregation and those who don’t fulfill the rights of others will be put.

For a person who does not offer Salaat, apart from what is there in the hereafter in this world itself, his/her life is shortened and there are no blessings in his/her Rizq (sustenance).  The supplication of a person who does not offer Salaat is not accepted.  Even if the Auliya (sainsts) pray for that person the effect is less than what it would be.  At the time of death, that person will be humiliated and debased.  No matter how much water he/she drinks, the thirst will not be quenched.

A person died in the era of Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (May Allah be well pleased with him).  When the people assembled to offer his funeral Salaat, they noticed his shroud moving.  On inquiry they found a snake coiled around his neck, biting and eating his flesh.  People around there decided to kill it, but all of sudden it said: Why do you want to kill me?  What is my fault?  I’ve been commanded by Allah Ta’ala to torture him untill the doomsday.  When asked what sin he had committed to deserve this, the snake replied:  This man was involved in three kinds of sins:

(1)  After hearing the Adhaan, he would not go to Masjid for congregational Salaat.

(2)  He didn’t give Zakaat.

(3)  He did not pay any attention to the advice of the Ulema, the scholars of Islam.
