Some more distinctions of Hadhrat Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him)

His marriage

Hadhrat Ali’s (May Allah be well pleased with him) marriage was performed with the leader of the women in Jannah, Hadhrat Syeda Fatima (May Allah be well pleased with him).  There is a Hadith in Mo’jam Kabeer Tabarani:

Translation: Hadhrat Abdullah Bin Mas‘ud narrates from the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) that He (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  Indeed Allah Ta’ala ordered me to marry Fatima to Ali (May Allah be well pleased with them).  (Mo’jam Kabeer Tabarani, Hadith No. 10152)

Why Karamallahu Wajhahu is used with the name

When the names of the the Ahle Bait, the Companions and the saints and elders are taken, then out of respect we say Raziallahu anhu or Rahmatullah Alaih with their names.  However, when the name of Hadhrat Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) is mentioned, we specially use “Karamallahu Wajhahu also with his name.  The reason is given in Noor Ul Absaar:

Translation: The name of the mother of Hadhrat Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) is Fatima Bint Asad Bin Hashim Bin Abde Munaf………In the period when she was pregnant with Hadhrat Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him), whenever she would try to prostrate to any idol, she couldn’t do it because Hadhrat Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) would wedge himself in the womb with his feet on her stomach and his back to her back and stop her from doing so.  That is the reason whenever the name of Hadhrat Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) is mentioned, Karamallahu Wajhahu is mentioned.

To love Hadhrat Ali is to love the Prophet Himself

Hadhrat Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) has such a status with the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) that to love him is to love the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) Himself.  As given in this Hadith:

Translation: It has been narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Salman Farsi (May Allah be well pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) told Hadhrat Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him):  O Ali!  The one who loves you loves me and the one who harbors enmity against you harbors enmity against me.  (Mo’jam Kabeer Tabarani, Hadith No. 5973)

Hadhrat Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) – Loved by all creation

As Hadhrat Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) is loved by Allah and loved by His Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), every grain of sand of this universe loves him.  Imam Tabari has mentioned a Tradition in his book Riyaz Un Nazr:

Translation:  It has been narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Anas Bin Malik (May Allah be well pleased with him), he says that Hadhrat Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) gave Hadhrat Bilal 1 Dirham to get some muskmelons.  Hadhrat Bilal says:  I presented 1 muskmelon to Hadhrat Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him).  When he cut it, it was bitter.  He said:  O Bilal (May Allah be well pleased with him)!  Return it to the person from whom you bought it and bring me back the Dirham, as the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  Verily Allah Ta’ala took the promise love you from every human, tree, fruit and every seed.  So whoever took your love to their hearts became sweet and pure and whoever did not accept your love became filthy and bitter.  I think that this melon must also have been from a tree who didn’t accept my love. (Ar Riyaz Un Nazra Fi Manaqibi ‘Ashra)

Among the Companions of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), Hadhrat Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) has this distinction that there are hundreds of verses of the Holy Quran in his praise.  Imam Jalaluddin Suyuti (May Allah shower His mercy on him) has written on the authority of Ibn Asakar:
