Allah Ta’ala has granted superiority and excellence to Hadhrat Uthman (May Allah be well pleased with him) and has seated him on high stations. Allah Ta’ala has also granted him many distinguishing qualities to Hadhrat Uthman (May Allah be well pleased with him). Two daughters of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) were married to him after one passed away. Two daughters of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) were never married to any single person. That is why he is called Dhun Noorain (The one with 2 lights). He is among the first to embrace Islam and among the first to migrate (i.e. perform Hijrah). He is among those whom the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) had given the glad tidings of Jannah in this world itself.
He is also the one who performed Hijrah 2 times, one to Abyssinia and one to Madinah. The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said about him: Indeed! Uthman is the first one after Prophet Lut (peace be upon him) who performed Hijrah along with his wife for the sake of Allah Ta’ala. (Mojam Kabeer Tabarani, Hadith No. 141)
These are the words of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi Qadri Associate Professor, Islamic Law, Jamia Nizamia and Founder/Director Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center. Mufti Sahab was speaking at Masjid Abul Hasanaat in the weekly lecture, which is conducted under the auspices of Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center. Mufti Sahab said that the life of Hadhrat Uthman (May Allah be well pleased with him) is a shining example for us.
At the time of the Treaty of Hudaibiyyah, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) had sent Hadhrat Uthman to the Quraish of Makkah as an envoy. They asked him to perform Tawaf and Umrah as he was already in Makkah. Hadhrat Uthman (May Allah be well pleased with him) said: I will never perform the Tawaf of the Ka’aba without the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). Then Hadhrat Uthman (May Allah be well pleased with him) was stopped and a rumor spread among the Muslims that Hadhrat Uthman (May Allah be well pleased with him) was martyred by the Quraish. The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) took the pledge of allegiance from the Sahabah. Then the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) placed His right hand over His left hand and said: O Allah! This hand is on the behalf of Uthman and this is pledge on the behalf of Hadhrat Uthman, as he is in your obedience and the obedience of your Prophet.
Mufti Sahab quoted a Hadith from Kanz Ul Ummal that:
Translation of Hadith: The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) made a special prayer for Hadhrat Uthman (May Allah be well pleased with him): O Allah! On the day of judgment, Uthman will not be able to stand before you due to his modesty, so please accept my prayer for him. (Kanz Ul Ummal, 33095)
There is also a Hadith in Jame’ Tirmidhi that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:
Translation of Hadith: Every Prophet has a companion and my companion in Jannah is Uthman.(Jame’ Tirmidhi Hadith No. 4063)
