Both of them are very great saints, enjoy the closeness (Qurb) of Allah Ta'ala and are the beloved of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).
They are actually from Shaam (Present day Syria).
Earlier, both of them were in the army of Bahadur Shah. They were so close to each other that there was not a race of separation or duality between them. They were actually 2 bodies and 2 persons, but as good as one. Because of their unity, both of them would live together.
Both of them are disciples (Mureed) of Hadhrat Kaleemullah Shah Qadri (May Allah sanctify his secret).
Arrival in Deccan:
In 1020 Hijri, when Bahadur Shah came to Deccan to battle against Kambuksh, then both of these elders were with the army. At one place, the army set up camp. Tents were set up all around. Incidentally, that night there was very heavy rain and such strong wind that all the tents were uprooted. Not one tent remained standing. However, the tent of these saints not only remained standing, but even their lamp did not go out. Both of them were busy in reading the Holy Quran and worshipping Allah Ta'ala. They were totally safe from the rain and the wind.
After this incident, the whole army acknowledged their piety and greatness and started thinking highly of them. Often, soldiers of the army would become their servants. Both the saints would treat the lowly and the high in the same good manner. They would treat everyone with love and affection. People with spiritual and worldly problems would come to them and get cured with their prayers.
Thousands of people started attaching themselves to them. They would give them their Ba'yah (pledge) and get initiated in the order (Silsilah). When the army of Bahadur Shah reached Hyderabad, both of them resigned from their posts and started living where their blessed graves are now and took up worship and contentment (Qinaat).
The effect of their company on an animal:
Allah Ta'ala had granted the status of Qutbiyyat (Lit. Pole of the world, a very high station) to Hadhrat Yousuf (May Allah shower His mercy on him). Many miracles were expressed through him. He was seated on such high stations of Taqwa (piety) that, through his company, even his horse would not eat its food if it came from a doubtful source. Also, it would not graze in anyone's farmland.
Hadhrat Yousuf (May Allah shower His mercy on him) had such power that even an animal, who is not even bound to follow the Shariah, becomes pious through his company.
Their passing away:
The author of Makhazin Ul A'araas (May Allah shower His mercy on him) says that both brother Hadhrat Yousuf and Hadhrat Shareef (May Allah shower His mercy on them) held posts under Khan-e-Khanaan, the vizier of Bahadur Shah. When the king came to Hyderabad, they came along with him. After reaching Deccan, Hadhrat Yousuf (May Allah shower His mercy on him) fell ill. After a week or 10 days, he passed away into the presence of Allah Ta'ala and left this material world.
He passed away on 5th Dhul Hijjah, 1121 Hijri.
Hadhrat Shareef (May Allah shower His mercy on him) was not present at the passing away of Hadhrat Yousuf (May Allah shower His mercy on him). When he came later and learnt that Hadhrat Yousuf (May Allah shower His mercy on him) had passed away, he said sorrowfully: It is against the conditions of companionship that you don’t remain in this world and I do."
He then made Wuzu, entered the room, lay down covering his face with a white bedspread and passed away into the presence of Allah Ta'ala that very moment. The brothers of the order had the honor of giving them the funeral bath and buried them in Nampally, where they were living.
