Khwaja-e-Khwajagaan Hadhrat Khwaja Ghareebnawaz (May Allah shower His mercy on him) propagated Islam in the best possible manner. Looking at his selflessness, benevolence, generosity and truthfulness, innumerable people embraced Islam. In his journey from Delhi to Ajmer, 90,00,000 people embraced Islam.
When he came to India, he did not have any army or weapons with him, but he had with him the etiquette of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and Islamic traditions with him. The Khwaja would relate the verses of the Holy Quran, the Hadith of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and teachings of the elite scholars/saints of Islam. In his gatherings, people would be invited towards Shariah, Tariqa and Ma’arifah. They would be exhorted to fulfill their Fardh (obligations), to embrace the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), worship, purity, sincerity, truthfulness, fear of Allah Ta’ala and serving the creation of Allah Ta’ala. Once to stress the importance of fulfilling the Fardh tasks, he said with the reference of the book of Faqih Abul Laith that every day, an angel calls out: The person who does not fulfill the Fardh of Allah Ta’ala, falls far away from the forgiveness of Allah Ta’ala and another angel calls out: The person who abandons a Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) is deprived of the Shafa’ah (intercession) of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).
Once a person came to the Khwaja with the intention of hurting him. The Khwaja understood his intention and said: Dervishes come to people for cleaning their hearts and not to hurt anybody. You fulfill the intention for which you have come here. Immediately that person took a weapon out from his sleeve, threw it on the ground, repented and embraced Islam. On seeing this miracle, many people embraced Islam. This person, who embraced Islam, because of the blessings and the company of the Khwaja, performed 45 or 55 Haj.
Teachings of the Khwaja:
The person who feeds those who are hungry, between him and hell, 7 veils are cast.
Allah Ta’ala fulfills 1000 needs of the person who feeds the hungry, frees that person from hell and a palace is created for that person in Jannah.
With Allah Ta’ala, there is no obedience better than helping the helpless, fulfilling the needs of the needy and feeding the hungry. For this reason in his kitchen, every day so much food would be cooked that the needy and the poor of the whole city would eat to their heart’s content. When the servants would approach him for the expenses, he would raise a corner of his prayer mat and say: Take how much ever amount you want.
Hadhrat Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki (May Allah shower His mercy on him) says about the generosity of the Khwaja: I have never seen any person who asked him for anything go empty-handed.
His passing away:
It is only because of the efforts of the Khwaja that the whole subcontinent started shining with the radiance of Tauheed. When the Khwaja passed away from this world, it was written on his forehead: This is the beloved of Allah and he passed away in the love of Allah. The dare of his passing away is: 6 Rajab, 627 Hijri, which corresponds to 21 May, 1230.
