Burqa- Safeguards a woman’s chastity and honor and protects her from strange diseases
Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi Qadri’s lecture at Jame Masjid AmberpetIt is silly not trying to bar the sources and means which drive people to immodesty and indecency. If any social system does not attempt to do so then it is understood that that social system does not attempt to save the society. In spite of this talking about “saving” the society or the like is only eyewash.
The most attractive part of the human body is the face and it is this body part which has the abilities of seeing, hearing and talking which may lead a person to immodesty. For this reason, the Shariah has commanded the woman to cover her face and not allow any unrelated person’s eyes to fall on her face. Allah SWT says in Surah Ahzaab:
O prophet! tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women, that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad): that is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not molested: and Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. Surah Ahzaab (33:59)
Hadhrat Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi Qadri, Naib Shaykh Ul Fiqh Jamia Nizamia and Founder/Director Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center expressed these thoughts on June 26, 2009, at Jame Masjid Amberpet.
He continued his lecture thus: Burqa is only an improved kind of Purdah. The NIqab of the Burqa also fulfils the same reason for which the command for covering the faces with chador is given.
Nowadays, people are trying to defame Islam and Muslims in some way or the other. Sometimes, by disrespecting the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and sometimes by making fun of the Shariah. Sometimes by portraying Islamic divorce in a bad light and sometimes by comparing the Purdah to a prison. The aim is to defame the Muslims and spread immodesty among them.
The remarks of Nicolas Sarkozy, the President of France, are against truth and wisdom and the demand of uncovering the faces is an invitation to all kinds of social evils. Instead what should have been done was that the Purdah should have been appreciated and the women using it should have been encouraged.
Apart from social evils, the Burqa also prevents skin diseases which are common nowadays because of pollution and more often than not, it is the women who keep their faces uncovered who contract them. It is a blessing of the Purdah that apart from prying eyes, it saves from skin diseases as well.
