The Holy Prophet - Prophet of mercy

The Holy Quran is so perfect and comprehensive that every letter of it is a guidance for humankind.  Allah Ta'ala says in Surah Ambiya:

 

And, (O Esteemed Messenger,) We have not sent you but as a Mercy for all the worlds.

 

(Surah Ambiya, 21:107)

 

Also it is given in Surah Taubah: 128

 

.........He is most (deeply) clement and merciful to the believers.

 

(Surah Taubah, 9:128)

 

Allah Ta'ala has declared the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) to be deeply merciful in Surah Tauba and has declared Him to be mercy for the whole universe.  Being benevolent is an attribute and there is a possibility of a change in attribute, so Allah Ta'ala has declared Him to be an embodiment of mercy, because His mercy will keep benefiting people and mercy will never be removed from Him.

Mufti Sahab Qibla said that in Surah Ambiya, Allah Ta'ala has declared the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) to be absolute mercy.  Thus, He is a mercy before His Milad and before declaration of Prophethood and also after passing away into the presence of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala). 

 

Mufti Sahab Qibla said that when an infant cries, the mother feeds it, puts it to sleep and keeps watching over it.  Feeding the child is the affection of the mother, putting it to sleep is her mercy and continuously is her love.  The mercy of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) is for the whole universe, but for the Momin (believer) and for those who follow His commandments, there is His mercy as well as His love.  Thus, those who love Him benefit from His mercy and He watches over them also. 

 

Mufti Sahab Qibla said in the Tafseer of the above verse of the Holy Quran that the one who receives mercy is destitute to the one who gives mercy i.e. who is benevolent and the benevolent one is powerful.  When Allah Ta'ala has made Him "Mercy for the whole universe," then the whole world needs Him.  There is a Hadith in Sahih Bukhari: The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Indeed! I am the one who distributes and Allah Ta'ala grants.  (Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 1, Pg No. 439)

 

Mufti Sahab Qibla said that benevolence can be shown when the benevolent one knows the language of those who need it.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) is mercy for the whole universe, so He knows the languages of the whole universe.  There is a Hadith in Khasaais Kubra that a Sahabi came to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and said that his camel had become rebellious.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) went there.  The moment the camel saw Him, it came running to Him, prostrated to Him and started crying.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) told its master: This camel is complaining about you.  Treat it nicely.  Then He (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Everything in the universe knows and believes that I am the Prophet of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala), excepting rebellious genies and rebellious men.  (Khasaais Kubra, Vol. 2, Pg No. 90)

 

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) gave the message of peace, love and brotherhood in a time when oppression, aggression, terror, etc. were prevalent in the society.  Due to His blessed teachings, the society became a garden of peace.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: You have mercy on those who dwell on the earth and the Lord of the heavens will have mercy on you.  (Jame' Tirmidhi, Hadith No: 2409)

 

Mufti Sahab Qibla said that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has stressed treating one's subordinates.
There is a Hadith in Sahih Bukhari: Your brothers who are your slaves (subordinates).  Allah Ta'ala has given them under you.  Thus, whoever has his brother under him should feed him from what he eats, should clothe him from what he wears and do not tax them beyond their capacity.  If you do so, then help them.  (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No: 30)
