SPLITTING OF THE MOON

When the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) invited humanity to truth and started distributing the ni'mah of Tauheed and Prophethood of Allah Ta'ala, the disbelievers of Makkah wanted to stop His mission.  Abu Jahl sent for his friend Habeeb Yemeni, so that he could stop the mission of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  When Habeeb Yemeni reached Makkah, Abu Jahl started complaining about the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  Habeeb Yemeni said: Let me first meet Him and see for myself. 

He sent one of his messengers to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) that Habeeb Yemeni wants to meet you along the elite of Quraish at such and such a place.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) went to meet him and it was a full moon night.

Habeeb Yemeni asked the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam): What do you invite people to?  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: To the unit of Allah Ta'ala and to my Prophethood.  Habeeb Yemeni said: If you are a Prophet, then what is the sign/miracle of your Prophethood.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Whatever sign/miracle you want, I am ready to show it. 

Habeeb Yemeni said: I want to see 2 miracles:

1.  First, that you should split the moon into 2. 

2.  Second, you should only tell what I want. 

 The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) went to Safa along with all the leaders and elite of Quraish and gestured towards the moon with His finger and the moon split into 2 and everybody saw it with their own eyes.  Then the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) gestured and the moon rejoined. 

 Then the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), for whom Allah Ta'ala has laid bare the hearts of the whole world, said: O Habeeb Yemeni! One of your daughters is blind, deaf and lame.  You desire that she should be healed.  Go! Your daughter is healed. 

 The moment he heard this, Habeeb Yemeni recited the Kalima and embraced Islam. 

 Then when he went to his house, he saw his former lame daughter opening the door.  He asked her about this and she said: Father! I saw a dream, a beautiful and radiant person came, recited me the Kalima and a Muslim and passed over His hand over my body and I became well at that very moment.  (Sharh Qaseeda Burdah by Allama Kharputi (May Allah shower His Mercy on him))
