All months and days are created by Allah Ta'ala. No day and no month is inauspicious or unlucky. In the days of ignorance i.e. before Islam, people were involved in blind beliefs about the month of Safar. The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) refuted all these superstitions.
Real cause of difficultiesWhenever a difficulty comes, then we should analyze our deeds. We should remove all shortcomings and perform Tauba (i.e. repent) and turn to Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala), because difficulty does not come because of some month or some time, but because of our own deeds.
Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) says:
Whatever misfortune happens to you, is because of the things your hands have wrought, and for many (of them) He grants forgiveness. Surah Ash Shoora (42:30)
These are the words of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi Qadri in the weekly lecture organized by Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center at Masjid Abul Hasanaat, Jahanuma, Hyderabad.
Mufti Sahab said that even the virtuous and pious slaves of Allah Ta'ala have to face difficulties and hardships and this is a test for them from Allah Ta'ala. The people who face difficulties with steadfastness and patience are successful and Allah Ta'ala's help is with them.
Nothing is unluckyMufti Sahab said that one among the wrong superstitions of the days of ignorance was that they would consider the month of Safar to be inauspicious. He quoted a Hadith from Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:
Translation of Hadith: No disease is contagious (in itself) and there is nothing called inauspiciousness, there is no inauspiciousness in owl and there is no inauspiciousness in Safar.
(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No: 5707; Sahih Muslim 5920)
There is a Hadith in Sunan Abu Dawood that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Considering anything unlucky is from Satan.
Mufti Sahab said that considering Safar as unlucky and not having marriages or celebrating other happy occasions in this is all the result of blind beliefs and superstitions which have no basis in Islam. Muslims should compulsorily stay away from such things.
Safar – In the history of IslamThe Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) made the Hijrah (migration) from Makkah to Madinah. He (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) married Hadhrat Safiya (May Allah be well pleased with her) in Safar. In Safar, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) sent an army in the leadership of Hadhrat Usama (May Allah be well pleased with him) and as per a Hadith in "Subul Ul Huda war Rashad" the marriage of Hadhrat Fatima with Hadhrat Ali (May Allah be well pleased with them) was also performed in Safar.
Mufti Sahab said that keeping eggs, oil etc. in the name of "Tera Tezi" is also useless and ought to be avoided. Apart from this, giving charity to the poor and needy to gain the pleasure of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) is commendable in this month as in other months.
Is Wednesday unlucky?Mufti Sahab said that the belief that any important work should not be done on Wednesday is completely wrong. There is a Hadith in Sahih Muslim that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: …………. Allah Ta'ala created "Noor" on Wednesday.
Mufti Sahab said anyhow the mixing of the sexes is not correct, doing so on the last Wednesday of Safar, considering it a Sunnah is particularly wrong.
Mufti Sahab answered the questions of those present and the lecture ended with Dua and Salaam
