The men of Allah
The special quality of the men of Allah that the Holy Quran describes is their steadfastness. Steadfastness is to continuously try to propagate the message of Islam everywhere. To bear the difficulties and hardships that one encounters in this path and to always safeguard the enthusiasm for one’s ultimate goal. This is courage (‘Azeemat) and this is what is called steadfastness.
Steadfastness is that priceless treasure and that great station that every other station and honor is below it, as has been said: Steadfastness is better than miracles.
There are no 2 opinions about this that steadfastness on the Shariah is the ultimate goal of every believer. It is highly essential for a believer to attain his/her objective and a mentor or guide to guide onto the right path is also highly necessary. It is a great privilege for us that to guide us, Almighty Allah keeps sending His beloved servants so that we see their steadfastness and become steadfast in our beliefs and faith and we see their etiquette and character and try to develop sincerity and selflessness in ourselves.
Thus, the one whom we are talking about now is the leader of the saints, the erudite Gnostic, the Emperor of India, Hadhrat Khaja Ghareebnawaz (May Allah shower His mercy on him).
India was the land where since thousands of years, idolatry was prevalent. The winds and breezes of this land had not yet savored the blessed names of Almighty Allah and His Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). It was the land where oppression, extortion and pillaging were considered a matter of pride. By coming here on the orders of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), the Khaja changed this land into a garden of paradise. He tore down the edifice of idolatry and blessed each and every grain of sand with the gnosis and realization (Ma’arifah) of Allah Most High.
To sow the seed of Islam in this land, he had to face many trials and tribulations. Then, apart from him and the small circle of his disciples, the idolaters were dominant all over the subcontinent. In such trying times, he faced every wave of opposition like the very mountain of steadfastness.
In today’s times, to propagate Islam, it is highly necessary that the method of inviting people with wisdom be used, as the message of Islam is nothing but to spread peace and love. We must accept the method that our pious predecessors used to preach Islam. Khaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti is the person who lit the lamp of Islam in India and propagated and promoted the message of Islam. When the Khaja came to India, he didn’t bring a huge army and swords and spears with him. He came here armed with the manners and character of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). The Khaja would reform people by relating the verses of the Holy Quran, the Hadith and the sayings and teachings of the great Shaykhs. The audience would draw benefit as per their states. In his assemblies, people would be guided towards the outward and inward aspects of Islam and would be instructed in the obligatory duties of Islam, the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), striving in the path of Allah, sincerity, purity, being conscious of Allah Most High and to serve the creation.
