His piety and asceticism
When Hadhrat Imam Zainul A'abideen (May Allah be well pleased with him) would perform Wuzu, his face would turn pale. His family members would ask him – What happens to you when you perform Wuzu? He would answer: Do you know in whose presence I am going to stand?
When walking, his hand would not move beyond his thigh and he would not move his hands.
His mannersWhen he would get to know that someone is speaking ill of him, he would go to that person's house and very softly speak to that person: O so and so! Whatever you have said about me, if it is true then may Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) forgive me and if it is not, then may Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) forgive you. Walaikum Assalamalaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa barakutuhu!
A certain person insulted him. The Imam deliberately ignored him. He said: I am talking to you. Then Imam Zainul A'abideen (May Allah be well pleased with him) said: That is why I am ignoring you and being patient.
Once, he came to the Masjid. A certain person insulted him. His servants and slaves ran after him, but he stopped them and said: Don’t tell anything to him. Then turned to him and said: At this point, our states, which are hidden from you, are too numerous. Do you need anything that we should help you?
That person felt ashamed. The Imam gave the cloak which was on his blessed body to that person and ordered that more than thousand dirhams be given to that person. That person called out: I testify that you are the progeny of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).
His teachingsLack of friends is poverty.
The worship of the free slaves of Allah Ta'ala is only to thank Allah Ta'ala, not out of fear of hell or desire for Jannah.
How can that person be your friend who does not feel happy when you open his bag and take what you want?
