Reciting Durood on Friday
It is mentioned in Kanz Ul ‘Ummaal and in Al Waseela Al ‘Udhma:
Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddiq (May Allah be well pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: You people recite Durood on Me profusely. Allah Most High has appointed an angel who will remain near My grave and when any follower of Mine recites Durood, that angel will tell me: O Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)! So and so son (or daughter) of so and so has recited Durood on You.
The same is established through this Hadith as well:
Translation: The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Allah Most High sends His greetings to the person who recites Durood. An angel is appointed who conveys their Durood to Me.
Imam Sakhawi (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) has related a similar Hadith in his Al Qaul Ul Bad’ee:
Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Yazeed Raqqashi that an angel is appointed on Friday who conveys the Durood recited on Friday to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and says: So and so, Your follower recites Durood on You.
This Hadith shows that a special angel is appointed to convey the Durood which are recited on Friday apart from the angel who is mentioned in the previous Hadith. The reason is that there is much excellence in on reciting Durood on Friday. For this reason, special arrangements are made on this day and many angels descend only for this duty, which will be seen shortly Allah-willing.
This also establishes that a single angel hears the Durood which are recited on the whole earth and conveys them to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). That angel has been given the same powers of hearing which those 2 angels have been given who supplicate for the good of all those who recite Durood, which we have just seen.
When it is established through so many Hadith that there are angels for whom distance is meaningless and who hear the voices of each and every person, then how can Muslims have any doubt about the powers of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)!
Thus the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) Himself says:
Translation: Whoever recites Durood on Me, I hear his voice. I asked: Will it be so even after Your demise, o Prophet of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)? He said: Yes. Allah Most High has forbidden the earth from devouring the bodies of the Prophets.
Now the question that if the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) Himself hears it, then why are so many angels needed? The answer to this is even to Allah Most High, deeds are presented by the angels. In spite of this, the absolute power of the Lord Almighty cannot be doubted. The point is if there are more than 1 ways of receiving knowledge about something, it doesn’t imply any failing. In fact, it shows the powers and the greatness of Allah Most High.
