Hadhrat 'Umar Farooq (May Allah be well pleased with him)
–
The one who discerns between truth and falsehood
The second caliph of Islam, Hadhrat 'Umar (May Allah be well pleased with him) is that awe-inspiring personality, whose efforts in spreading Islam and ensuring justice created history. He acquired knowledge from the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and presented the truth about Islam to the world. The company of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) turned Hadhrat 'Umar (May Allah be well pleased with him) into an epitome of steadfastness and an embodiment of all praiseworthy qualities.
He was the fortieth person to embrace Islam. His embracing Islam became a means of strengthening Islam. Before his coming into the fold of Islam, Muslims prayed secretly. After he embraced Islam, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) was requested: The false deities are being worshipper openly and the One truly worthy of worship is being worshipped secretly!” After this, Muslims offered Salaat openly in front of the Ka’aba.
These are the words of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi, Professor, Islamic Law, Jamia Nizamia, Founder-Director, Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center, in the weekly lecture conducted under the aegis of AHIRC in Masjid Abul Hasanaat.
The revered Mufti said that when Hadhrat 'Umar (May Allah be well pleased with him) embraced Islam, the companions (May Allah be well pleased with them) shouted out the name of the Lord Almighty Allahu Akbar with such intensity that the valleys of Mecca echoed with it. The chief of the angels, Jibreel (May peace be upon him) came to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) gave the glad tidings: O Prophet of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam)! The heavenly beings celebrated ''Umar’s embracing Islam.
Hadhrat 'Umar (May Allah be well pleased with him) had the honor of participating in all the major battles of Islam. He had such courage and bravery that the disbelievers were in fear of him. The revered Mufti quoted from Sahih Bukhari that Hadhrat 'Umar (May Allah be well pleased with him) was granted special knowledge. The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) dreamt that He drank milk and gave the leftover milk to Hadhrat 'Umar (May Allah be well pleased with him). When the Companions inquired about the meaning of the dream, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) answered: Knowledge. The revered Mufti said that the leftover milk from the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) turned Hadhrat 'Umar (May Allah be well pleased with him) into a veritable ocean of knowledge and gnosis.
The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said about him: If there would have been a prophet after Me, it would’ve been 'Umar. However, there is no prophet after Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). The revered Mufti quoted from Jame’ Tirmidhi that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Allah Most High has prompted truth on the tongue and heart of 'Umar. Once, after performing the circumambulation of the Ka’aba, Hadhrat 'Umar (May Allah be well pleased with him) requested the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) that it would be better if a Salaat (the 2 Raka’at after Tawaaf) is fixed at Maqam Ibraheem. Allah Most High revealed a command as per the request of Hadhrat 'Umar (May Allah be well pleased with him).
After the lecture, there was a session of Dhikr and Sulook. The whole session ended with Dua and Salaam.
