The supplications of Shab Qadr

The supplications of Shab Qadr

For the sake of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), Allah Most High has granted this Ummah innumerable blessings.  He gave us a month like Ramadhan, whose first 10 days are of Mercy, the middle 10 days are of pardon and the last 10 days are of deliverance from Hell.  In this blessed month, Allah Most High has kept a sacred night, which is better than 1000 months.  The special Supplication of this night (Shab Qadr) and other supplications of forgiveness from the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) are being mentioned here.

Note: All the scholars of the Hanafi, Shafa’i, Maliki and Hambali school of jurisprudence are in agreement that all the Prophets are free from every major and minor sin and are innocent.  Imam Qurtubi (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) writes:

Translation: Wherever the word “repentance” or “sin” is mentioned in regard to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) or other Prophets, it means even more elevation of their status, as Allah Most High promises in Surah Zuha.

Although the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) is pure of sins, He mentioned these Supplication for the sake of the Ummah.

About supplication it should be remembered that before and after it Durud should be recited as this ensures the acceptance of the Supplication.  There is a Hadith in Jame’ Tirmidhi on the authority of Hadhrat ‘Umar Farooq (May Allah be well pleased with him).  He said: Supplication remains hanging between the sky and earth until you do not present Durud in the presence of your Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  (Jame’ Tirmidhi, Hadith No: 488)

Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Ummul Momineen Syeda ‘Aisha Siddiqua (May Allah be well pleased with her), she says: When the last 10 days of Ramadhan started, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) would ready himself and engage in even more worship than ever before and would spend the night in worship and would wake up the members of the house as well (so that they could also pray and gain the blessings of the last 10 days of the Ramadhan).  (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No: 2024, Sahih Muslim Hadith No: 2844)

There is a Hadith in Jame’ Tirmidhi, Musnad Imam Ahmad and in Zujajatul Masabeeh:

Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Ummul Momineen Syeda ‘Aisha Siddiqua (May Allah be well pleased with her), she says that I asked: O Prophet of Allah!  If I get Shab Qadr, what supplication should I recite? The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Say:

Transliteration: Allahumma Innaka ‘Afuwwun Kareem Tuhhibul ‘Afwa Fa'fu ‘Annee

Translation: O Allah Most High! You are the most forgiving and like forgiving.  Forgive me.  (Jame’ Tirmidhi, Hadith No: 3855)

There is a Hadith in Sahih Muslim and Mishkaat Ul Masabeeh:

Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abdullah Bin Mas’ud narrates from the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) would say:

Transliteration:  Allahumma Innee Asalukal Huda Wat Tuqaa Wal ‘Afaafa Wal Ghina

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith No: 7079)

There is a Hadith in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim:

Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Anas Bin Malik (May Allah be well pleased with him): He says that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) would frequently recite this Supplication:

Transliteration:  Allahumma Rabbanaa Aatina Fid Dunya Hasanatawn Wa Fil Aakhirati Hasanatawn Wa Qina Azaaban Naar.

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No: 6389, Sahih Muslim, 7016)

There is a Hadith in Sahih Muslim:

Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Malik Ashja’I (May Allah be well pleased with him) narrates on the authority of his father that whenever any person embraced Islam, then the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) would first teach that person Salaat, then would order that person to pray in these words:

Transliteration:  Allahummaghfirlee Warhamnee Wahdinee Wa A’afinee Warzuqnee

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith No: 7025)
