The creation of human beings

 

Almighty Allah announced in the spiritual realms: 

 

….I will create a vicegerent on earth… Surah Baqarah (2:30)

 

We will create a vicegerent on the earth and through him, We will affect our commands on the earth. 

 

Hearing this, entire universe was struck with astonishment.  Having creation like angels, what was the need to create humans?  There was no limit to the bewilderment of the angels and genies.  The very essence of human beings is of such diverse faculties and temperaments which make lust and anger inevitable.  This in turn will cause needless corruption.  Such a creature which has 2 ruinous faculties and one good faculty of intelligence, even his creation is not wise, let alone making him the vicegerent.  As far as Your glorification is concerned, for this, we angels are present, who are entirely free of the faculties of lust and anger.

 

When angels asked with humility and modesty (not as an objection and jealousy) and Iblees (Satan), with pride and jealousy, asked:  Our Lord!  The human which You desire to create will spread corruption and shed blood.  What is the wisdom behind creating and making him the vicegerent?  Iblees was not deserving of being addressed.  Addressing the angels, Almighty Allah said:  My angels!  Your gaze has rested on the flaws of human beings and your own accomplishments.  Do have a look at their accomplishments and your own flaws.  You have thought of their corruption.  Why didn’t you think of their piety and virtuousness?  You have seen their shedding of blood, why didn’t you see their shedding of tears?  You did see their mistakes and sins, why couldn’t you see their sighs and moans?  You have seen their difficulty, why not our benignity?  You saw their sins, why didn’t you see the radiance of their faith?  You have seen their lust-filled bodies, why couldn’t you see their hearts full of love?  You have seen their body nourished in bounties, why not their sorrowful hearts?  You have seen their pride, why didn’t you see their yearning?  You have seen their dirt-ridden garments, why not their grief-ridden hearts?

 

My Angels!  The way you have looked at your glorification, look at their loving ardency as well.  The way you have looked at your praise (of Allah), look at their ecstasy and crying out as well.  How you looked at your own luster, look at their secrets as well.  The way you looked at your own service, look at their nearness as well. 

 

The way you have looked at your light of obedience, look at their fire of love as well.  The way you have looked at your rapture with Us, look at Our attachment with them as well.

 

My Angels!  As it is mandatory for a king to have retinue to display his grandeur and majesty, in the same manner friends & confidantes are also needed to enjoy love and adoration.  Thus, the entire universe is like My retinue through which My supremacy and dominion is expressed.  None of them is worthy of being My friend & confidant, as none of them know how to love.  Only human beings have the capability to become My friend & confidant.  Love and adoration is the specialty of human beings alone.  The burning of their hearts and their restlessness in My love will rend the hearts of the angels of the highest heavens.
