Fear of Allah - Means of felicity in this world and the next

Through the Holy Quran, Almighty Allah orders His slaves to develop His fear and consciousness and to lead a life of piety.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: The fire of hell is forbidden on the person from whose eyes tears flow out of the fear of Allah Most High, the way milk once drawn from the udders can never go back into them.

The Prophet’s Family and His Companions (May Allah be well pleased with them) are seated on really high stations. Their excellence is axiomatic. Even then, they would tremble out of the fear of Allah Most High. Even after being given the glad tidings of paradise, each and every moment of their lives was full of piety and of being conscious of Allah Most High.

People came to meet Hadhrat ‘Umar Farooq (May Allah be well pleased with him) on the day of Eid. They found him crying uncontrollably. People asked him: O Commander of the faithful! Eid is a day of happiness. Why are you crying? Hadhrat ‘Umar (May Allah be well pleased with him) answered: The joys of Eid are for that person whose fasts and other forms of worship have been accepted by Allah Most High. I don’t know whether my fasts and worship has been accepted or not!

These are the words of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi, Professor, Islamic Law, Jamia Nizamia, Founder-Director, Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center, in the weekly lecture at Masjid Abul Hasanaat, which is held under the aegis of AHIRC.

The revered Mufti said that when Hadhrat ‘Uthman (May Allah be well pleased with him) would pass by a graveyard, he would cry so much that his blessed beard would be wet with his tears. People asked him: You don’t cry this much on the mention of paradise or hell. Why do you cry so much on passing by a graveyard? Hadhrat ‘Uthman (May Allah be well pleased with him) said: I have heard the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) say: The grave is the first step in the journey of the hereafter. The one who is successful in this will be successful in the later steps and the one who stumbles here will find the later steps even more difficult.

The revered Mufti said that the first 4 Caliphs and the Blessed Ten are those who have been given the glad tidings of paradise, but even then they would be overwhelmed by the fear and consciousness of Allah.

Almighty Allah has praised those hearts which are full of the fear and consciousness of Allah Most High, whose nights are spent in worship and supplicating Almighty Allah. Almighty Allah says in the Holy Quran:

Their sides stay away from their beds and they call out to their Lord in a (mingled state) of fear and hope and spend (in Our way) out of the sustenance We have provided them. Surah Sajdah (32:16)

The revered Mufti quoted the following verse of Surah Younus:

(They) are the people who believe and (always) remain Godfearing, committed to piety. Surah Younus (10:63)

He said that piety is the means of felicity in this world and the next. There are glad tidings for those who believe and do good deeds.

He said that this world is a place of deeds. The kind of deeds that we do here decide the reward that we will get in the hereafter. This world is not permanent. We should lead this life as if we are a traveler.

The session ended with Salaam and Dua. Maulana Hafidh Muhammad Khalid Ali Qadri, Teacher, Jamia Nizamia, led the proceedings.
