Valentine’s Day – A rite of immodesty

 

 

Valentine’s Day is actually celebrated in memory of a Christian priest.  Allah Most High has warned of strict punishment.

 

As given in Surah Noor:

 

Indeed, those who like that lewdness should spread amongst the Muslims, for them is an agonizing punishment in this world and in the Hereafter. And Allah knows (the intentions of such people) and you do not know.  Surah Noor (24:19)

 

Islam teaches chastity, modesty and lofty qualities. All the men of understanding know the fact that immodesty, indecency and nudeness destroys the whole society. The progress and development of a society is only through virtuousness, modesty and chastity. For this reason the Holy Quran instructs everybody not even to approach any kind of immodesty be it spoken or otherwise. It orders to avoid indecent songs, pornographic literature. It is extremely necessary for each one of us to avoid character-destroying literature, visual nudity, indecent actions and immodest talk and thoughts in our public and personal lives and in every sleeping and waking moment of our life.

 

Not only Islam, but also any educated, cultured person will not accept the flood of immodesty and indecency that is flung in our societies on the occasion of Valentine’s Day. It is because of such condemnable acts that fatal diseases like AIDS etc. are inflicted on us. The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:

 

Translation: The nation which openly indulges in immodesty will be afflicted with contagious diseases like plague and other diseases which the earlier people were even aware of.

 

The rampancy of immodesty mentioned in this verse includes every form of immodesty in print form i.e. books, etc. immodesty in visual form i.e. images, CDs etc. and every other conceivable form.

 

It is in fact a habit of Satan to invite people towards immodesty.  As given in Surah Noor:

 

O believers! Do not follow the footsteps of Satan, and whoever follows the footsteps of Satan, then he (Satan) certainly commands to practise (and promotes) immorality and sinful deeds. And if there had not been Allah?s grace and His mercy upon you, then none of you would ever have been pure (of the stain of the sin of slander). But Allah purifies whom He wills and Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.  Surah Noor (24:21)

 

Satan makes immodesty tempting to the people.  They think that happiness and solace is to be found only in this.  But they are not aware that Satan is only spreading its net to ensnare them.  Those people could not understand the deception of Satan.

 

Almighty Allah says about desisting from sins:

 

And do not draw near to shameful deeds (whether) open or hidden.  Surah An’aam (6:151)

 

In this verse of the Holy Quran, Almighty Allah includes each and every kind of sin in this prohibition and let alone actually committing them, the Lord Almighty orders us not even to approach them.

 

Roaming with members of the opposite sex and pre-marital sex is being considered a matter of pride.  The result of all this is that these things are not limited anymore to clubs and hotels but the veil of modesty is being rent in temples of learning and in public as well

 

Indecency has become so rampant in the society that it is extremely difficult for youth to protect and guard their chastity.  Because of the indecent atmosphere, the desire of the youth is stirred and as they have no permissible way of satisfying it, they fall prey to adultery, which results in hitherto unheard of diseases and fuels disagreement and discord.

 

There is a Hadith from Jame’ Tirmidhi that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  When you get a proposal of a person about whose religiousness and character you are satisfied, then wed (your daughter) to that person without delay.  If this is not done, then there will be a great unrest and tribulation on earth.

 

In support of consensual sexual relations before marriage, the west says that there should be mutual relations before marriage as this enables the man and the woman to understand each other’s temperament and nature and gets the chance to know each other.  This is just a betrayal and gimmick.

 

The whole world knows the results of this western approach.  Many women become pregnant before marriage and have to abort out of fear of facing the society and/or their parents/guardian or for some other reasons.

 

Nowadays, indecency has become so common in the society that it is being accepted in the name of liberalism and the like.

 

The experts are saying that the society has, as a whole, become complacent about sexual licentiousness.  There is no embarrassment or sense of unease about any kind of sexual escapades, be it adultery, sodomy or ay other unnatural sexual act.  In fact, the media is moving heaven and earth to try to make virginity a source of embarrassment.

 

Each person of the society should be concerned about this.  The society can change only when the individuals of the society revolutionize it.

 

The way the whole society draws benefit from people who have virtuousness and lofty character, in the same way the whole society is hurt when immodesty rules the roost and the garment of chastity are rent.  It takes a great deal of time and instruction to remove these effects.

 

It is a clear truth that modesty is the dividing line between humanity and animalism.  Human beings should understand their status and honor and should not acquire those qualities which will fall them below humanity.

 

The Prophet of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:

 

Translation:  It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Mas’ud (May Allah be well pleased with him) that the Beloved Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Surely, it was mentioned in the words of the previous Prophets which the people received that if you don’t have any shame, do whatever you want.  (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 6120)

 

It is the responsibility of all people as human beings and especially Muslims that they should refrain from lewd gazing.  They should abstain from premarital relationships.  They should save themselves from Un-Islamic customs in the functions.

 

A woman should not describe the beauty of another Unrelated (non-Mahram) woman before her husband.  They should refrain from acts like singing and dancing in wedding ceremonies and other functions.  In the functions of schools and colleges, one should be mindful of human values. Each and every person should save themselves from indecent and obscene deeds.
