Zujaajatul Masabeeh – A magnum opus of Hadith sciences and Islamic jurisprudence

 

The writings of Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) are a great treasure for scholars and non-scholars alike

 

Jashne Muhaddith-e-Deccan held in Masjid Abul Hasanaat

 

On February 23, 2012, Sunday, after Salaat Ul Maghrib, 9^th Jashne Muhaddith-e-Deccan was held in Masjid Abul Hasanaat, Phool Bagh, Jahanuma.

 

On this occasion, a token of appreciation was presented to Maulana Khaja Shareef, Shaykh Ul Hadith, Jamia Nizamia, at the hands of Maulana Syed Qubool Badshah Shuttari.  The English translation of Kitaab Ul Muhabbat was also released on this occasion.

 

Hadhrat Maulana Khaja Shareef, Shaykh Ul Hadith, Jamia Nizamia, and founder, Al Mahad Ad Deeni Al Arabi said in his lecture that by compiling those Hadith which support the Hanafi School of Jurisprudence, Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) has demonstrated to the world that the Hanafi School of Islamic Jurisprudence is exactly as per Hadith.  With this, he paid the debt that had remained outstanding on the followers of the Hanafi School for over 1000 years.  In these 1000 years, this task of compilation of Hadith which support the Hanafi School of Jurisprudence, was done sporadically, but Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) took this task to its culmination.

 

He said that Imam Tahawi (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) has compiled those Hadith which support the Hanafi School in his book Sharh Ma’ani Ul Aathaar, but these were only those Hadith which had reached Imam Tahawi (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) through his own chain of narration.  However, Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) took the Hadith of all Hadith-experts.  Thus, in Zujaajatul Masabeeh Hadith from Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim and Hadith from other (famous) compilations of Hadith are also found.

 

Hadhrat Maulana Syed Qubool Badshah Qadri Shuttari, General Secretary, Sadar Majlis Ulema-e-Deccan, said that the spiritual status of Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) is very high.  Many miracles have been expressed at his hands.  He said that he saw in his early youth that Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) had come to Masjid Aastaane Shuttariya.  The person who stood next to Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) in the congregational Salaat said that he heard the sound of ”Allah…Allah” coming from the bosom of Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him).  On hearing this, his maternal uncle said that this is the status of the friend of Allah Most High.

 

Hadhrat Maulana Dr. Hafidh Samiullah Khan, former Sadar Musahhih, Daairatul Ma’arif Al Osmania and honorable member, management committee, Jamia Nizamia, said that Allah Most High has made Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) a leader, especially for those who were in his era, and generally for those who come after him.  Whatever others have written about him and whatever has been said about him is not all.  This is because Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) is from the Ahle Safa.  There is an inward aspect to his outward aspect. 

 

For one generation to pass, it takes about 50 to 60 years.  These many years have passed after the demise of Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him).  It is necessary that the new generations be made aware of his teachings and of the services he rendered to the Ummah.

 

The greatest of his scholarly accomplishments is Zujaajatul Masabeeh.  The books he has written and the lectures he has given for the sake of the reforming the individuals (Tazkiya Nafs), they are a priceless treasure.

 

Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) has described anecdotes which teach us something.  He has also described the hidden meanings and subtleties with great spiritual insight.  He acted upon those teachings throughout his life.

 

He related an anecdote that when he was aged 13 years, his eyesight was gone.  One of his benefactors took him to Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him).  He caressed my face, supplicated for me and my eyesight returned although doctors had said that this boy cannot see for the rest of his life.

 

Hadhrat Maulana Hafidh Syed Badiuddin Sabri, Head of the department of Arabic, Osmania University said that those verses of the Holy Quran which people use to try to denigrate the status of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) has described the excellence of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) through those verses as well.

 

In Surah Dhuha, Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) has written the meaning of the (Arabic) word Dhaal that it means the one who has become ecstatic in the love of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and doesn’t find any rest.  Similarly, for the sons of Hadhrat Ya’aqub (May peace be upon him), he has used the word Dhilaal, which surely cannot mean misguidance, but means restlessness.

 

He said that Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) has written about the letter combinations (Muqatta'at that appear in the beginning of many Surah of the Holy Quran) that they are from the science of alphabets.  These are the secrets between the Lover and the Beloved, which even the angels don’t know about – the way no one else knows the code words used by police.

 

Maulana Mufti Hafidh Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi, Shaykh Ul Fiqh, Jamia Nizamia, and founder-director, Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center, said that Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) arrived into this world on Friday, 10^th Dhul Hijjah, 1292 Hijri, with the lesson of gnosis.

 

He said that Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) has instructed people to sit in the company of those who have (divine) love.  We should stay away from those who don’t have love of Allah Most High and His Prophet.

 

He said that to save people from the ills of (external) beauty, which is making people get addicted to wine, etc., he wrote Kitaab Ul Muhabbat.

 

Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) has described the bare reality of human beings in this book.  From every aspect, human beings are needy, they are full of filth.  In spite of all this, on what basis do human beings take pride in themselves?  They should understand this and obey Allah Most High and establish the love of Allah Most High in their hearts.  The importance of the love of Allah Most High will be understood at the time of death and on the Day of Judgment.  On the Day of Judgment, those hearts which have love of Allah Most High in them will be in His presence.  Such radiance will be emitted from those hearts that the heavens will be illuminated.  If people develop the love of Allah Most High in their hearts, then Allah Most High will wipe away the filth of their sins.

 

To convey this message to the students of colleges and the people educated in the secular system of education, the son of Maulana Muhammad ‘Abdul Gaffar Naqshbandi (May Allah shower His Mercy on him), Hafidh Muhammad ‘Abdur Rahman Naqshbandi, translated Kitaab Ul Muhabbat into English.  Maulana Dr. Syed Badiuddin Sabri, Head of the department of Arabic, Osmania University, checked this book word by word and corrected it (wherever necessary).  This book has been published with the foreword of Dr. Sabri.

 

He said that Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Hadith has made a lot of efforts in translating 3¼ volumes of Zujaajatul Masabeeh from Arabic into Urdu.  In this translation, he is very cautious when translating something about the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  His translation is lucid and easily understandable.

 

Maulana Shah Muhammad Faseehuddin Nizami, Chief Librarian, Jamia Nizamia, said that Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) has written books with his pen and with his grace and attention as well.  Those books written with his pen are Zujaajatul Masabeeh, ‘Ilaaj Us Salikeen, Sulook-e-Mujaddidiya, Qiyaamatnama, Merajnama and Miladnama.

 

Those books which he has written with his grace and attention are those personalities whom the Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) raised – Hadhrat Abul Barakaat Syed Khaleelullah Shah Naqshbandi, Hadhrat Abul Khair Syed Rahmatullah Shah Naqshbandi, Hadhrat Abul Khairaat Syed Anwaarullah Shah Naqshbandi (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) and other members of his family and his caliphs.

 

Hafidh Abdur Rahman Khan, the English translator of Kitaab Ul Muhabbat, spoke in English.  He said that Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) is one of those great personalities whom Allah Most High has selected.  Each act of his and each book of his is a means of gaining proximity to Allah Most High.  They are beacon of guidance for the people.  One of his important works is Kitaab Ul Muhabbat.  This book teaches us that the way people are busy in materialistic tasks and wasting their time, they should refrain from it and develop love for Allah Most High and engage in remembrance of Allah Most High.

 

He quoted the words of Hadhrat ‘Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) that the person who places his trust in people is disappointed, the one who places his trust in his wealth, his wealth is reduced, the one who trusts his knowledge is misguided, the one who relies on his own deductions stumbles, the one who trusts his own intellect, his intellect is disturbed and the person who places his trust in Allah Most High, that person is neither disappointed nor suffers any diminishment, is neither misguided nor stumbles.

 

He thanked Maulana Dr. Hafidh Badiuddin Sabri, Head of the department of Arabic, Osmania University, for going through the entire translation, correcting and giving feedback wherever necessary, and writing a foreword to the book.  He also thanked Maulana Mufti Hafidh Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi for encouraging him at every step of the task because of which this work was accomplished.

 

Before this, Maulvi Hafidh Syed Misbahuddin Umair Naqshbandi also spoke.  Hafidh Muhammad Khan Naqshbandi recited poetry by Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi in praise of Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him).

 

On this occasion, a token of appreciation was presented to Shaykh Ul Hadith, Maulana Khaja Shareef Sahab, on the culmination of the translation of Zujaajatul Masabeeh.  He was garlanded and a shawl was presented to him on behalf of AHIRC.  Other religious personalities, persons from religious organizations and people from various areas of the city also garlanded him.

Maulvi Syed Muhammad Bahauddin Zubair Naqshbandi led the proceedings.  Respectable Abdul Razzaq Maiman Naqshbandi presented the Salaam at the end of the session.
