Zujaajatul Masabeeh – A great accomplishment of Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan
(May Allah shower His Mercy on him)
Hadhrat Abul Hasanaat Syed ‘Abdullah Shah Naqshbandi Mujaddidi Qadri (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) is that personality who has created history with his scholarly and spiritual accomplishments. He was a beacon of knowledge and spirituality who provided guidance to countless souls. Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) was born on 10th Dhul Hijjah, 1292 Hijri, at dawn. He was the very sun of knowledge and gnosis whose light illuminated not only the subcontinent but the whole world. He guided millions of seekers to their destination. People would be drawn to his doors and there they would sate their thirst of knowledge and would benefit from his spiritual presence.
The knowledge of Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) was such that when he finished his religious studies, his father, Hadhrat Muzaffar Hussain Naqshbandi (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) presented him before the scholars. They asked him to interpret any verse of the Holy Quran.
Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) started speaking after Salaat Ul ‘Isha and until the time for Tahajjud started, he spoke only on “Wal Fajr” of Surah Fajr!
The scholarly, spiritual and reformative accomplishments can never be ignored. The scholarly world looks upon his works with deep admiration. He compiled a 5-volume compendium of Hadith in support of the Hanafi School of Jurisprudence, named “Zujaajatul Masabeeh” and authored highly scholarly explanatory notes for them. This magnum opus runs into 2500 pages. There are more than 6500 Hadith in it.
Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) gives the reason for the writing of Zujaajatul Masabeeh: After (deep) study of Mishkaatul Masabeeh, I often got a thought that I should write a book on the lines of Miskhaat, in which I follow the school of Imam Azam Abu Hanifa (May Allah be well pleased with him). However, my inability was holding me back. In those days, I saw the light of the universe, the full moon of guidance, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) in a dream. He greeted me with Salaam. I returned the greeting. May my life be sacrificed for Him! He embraced me and held me to His sacred bosom, which is the fountainhead of knowledge and wisdom. I woke up from the dream really happy.
I praised Almighty Allah for this and thanked Him for this great bounty. Thus, this blessed dream enlightened me and all the (perceived) difficulties of this task were rendered easy for me. I resolved to write and complete this book and readied myself for this.
By the grace of Almighty Allah, I did send Durood on the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) while writing each and every Hadith and I named this book as Zujaajatul Masabeeh. [End]
When this book got published, scholars and intellectuals said that the debt which was overdue on the Hanafis for the last 1300 years has been cleared by this scholar from Hyderabad.
Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan spent his life serving the Hadith of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). He recorded various Hadith in his books, told many Hadith in his sermons, most of all Zujajatul Masabeeh is such a wonderful achievement of his that the masters of the field have acknowledged this.
Zujajatul Masabeeh is such a boundless ocean that everyone brings forth pearls from it as per his own capability. Zujajatul Masabeeh is a favor on the whole Ummah. As such, he is the “Muhaddith Al Azam” of the whole Islamic world. However, as his residence is in Deccan, he is called Muhaddith-e-Deccan.
Zujajatul Masabeeh is such a great achievement that the greatest scholars, both Arabian and non-Arabian have admired unreservedly. Thus, the famous scholar of Herat, Hadhrat Maulana Abu Nasr Muhammad Azam Barnabadi Harawi (May Allah shower His mercy on him) received Zujajatul Masabeeh, he wrote a letter to Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His mercy on him) and expressed his views thus:
Translation: I received 3 copies of the 3rd volume of Zujajatul Masabeeh after the first 2, which you had sent to me out of kindness. On receiving them, this humble being praised and thanked Allah Ta’ala. The 2 volumes of Zuajajatul Masabeeh cooled my eyes and the 3rd volume is proving to be the illumination of my bosom. This is in fact a compendium of the most Sahih (rigorously-authentic) Hadith. I am feeling that I have acquired a boundless ocean, which is enough for me. This book is a clear proof for the Hanafi.
The famous scholar of the Arab world, Hadhrat Maulana Abdul Fattah Abul Ghuddah (May Allah shower His mercy on him) has written about Zujajatul Masabeeh:
Translation: Allah Ta’ala did me a great favor by enabling me to perform the Haj this year and with His benevolence has let me benefit from those ni’mah, which depend on this great article of appearing at the House of Allah Ta’ala. Among these extremely valuable ni’mah was that I received the 1st volume of Zujajatul Masabeeh, which has been authored by your excellency, through which my sight and wisdom have both been illuminated. I have thanked Allah Ta’ala for this priceless ni’mah that he has granted you. May Allah Ta’ala give you a great reward on behalf of Muslims and on behalf of the Hanafis.
Hadhrat Maulana Abul Afghani (May Allah shower His mercy on him), the founder of Ihya Al Ma’arif An Nomaniya, says:
Translation: Hadhrat Muhaddith-e-Deccan (May Allah shower His mercy on him) has written such a wonderful book, which is being read and taught in the whole Muslim world. the Islamic world cannot pride itself enough on this.
