The services of Shaykh Ul Islam Imam Muhammad Anwaarullah Farooqui (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) cannot be forgotten

 

Weekly lecture of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi in Masjid Abul Hasanaat

 

The towering personality of Deccan, Shaykh Ul Islam Imam Muhammad Anwaarullah Farooqui (May Allah shower His Mercy on him), was a great propagator of Islam, the revivalist of his era, a great Sufi and an erudite scholar.  His scholarly, reformatory and social services can never be ignored.  He gave up each and every moment of his life for propagation of Islam.  He expended his efforts in the preservation of the true beliefs of Islam and in the promotion of good deeds.

 

Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) defended Islam in such a time when the British had occupied India and had bought some so-called scholars to divide and rule the Ummah.  They started attacking Islam through their writings and started creating doubts in the minds of the populace.  They started explaining away the beliefs of Islam and in some cases subverting them as well.  On the other hand, Qadianism was gaining ground and many people were falling prey to it.  Other misguided sects had also increased and intensified their efforts to attack the Ahle Sunnah.  In such dangerous times, Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam Imam Muhammad Anwaarullah Farooqui defended the beliefs of Islam.  Through the Holy Quran and Hadith and modern sciences, he skillfully refuted all false notions and philosophies.

 

These are the words of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi, Shaykh Ul Fiqh, Jamia Nizamia, and Founder-Director, Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center in the weekly lecture held at Masjid Abul Hasanaat under the auspices of AHIRC.

 

The revered Mufti said that Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) was an epitome of both the Shariah and the Tariqa, i.e. the normative and mystical and spiritual aspects of Islam.  Other scholars have appreciated and admired his services, which cover the entire gamut of Islam.  In the world of scholarship, the books and writings of Shaykh Ul Islam (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) are considered to be of the highest merit.  Scholars and the common folk, the Sufis and the kings, all have drawn benefit from the personality of Shaykh Ul Islam (May Allah shower His Mercy on him).  The Sixth Nizam declared at the time of his coronation:  Whatever I am now, it is because of Maulana (i.e. Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam)

 

The Seventh Nizam remained under his tutelage for 22 years.  Later on, when he wanted Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam to become the Sadr Us Sudoor, Shaykh Ul Islam (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) demurred that he was past the maximum age for government employment.  The Nizam said:  In the whole kingdom, there is none more worthy than you of this post.

 

The revered Mufti said that to promote and spread Islamic sciences, Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) established Jamia Nizamia on the orders of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam also founded an organization Anjuman Islaahe Musalmaanan for the sake of bettering the morals of the populace.  He appointed speakers to far flung villages and provided Islamic books free of cost to poor folk.

 

The slaughter houses were being manned by people who were not aware of the Islamic precepts of slaughtering animals.  Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam ensured that educated people, who are well aware of the rules of slaughtering of animals, were employed there.

 

The system of Nikah was also assailed by many evils.  Marriage would be performed only orally and later on people would forge papers for the sake of dower or inheritance.  Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) gave orders that a standard paper (Siyaah Naama) should be used for all marriages in which all necessary details should be recorded right at the time of marriage itself.

 

In Hyderabad, the weights used by shopkeepers were not standardized, which led to underweighting of goods.  Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) standardized them and saved people from a grave sin and put an end to all arguments and quarrels arising due to this.  Even today, we are using weights standardized by him.

 

Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) established Daairatul Ma’arif for research and publication of Arabic books on Islamic sciences.  This institution alone has become the brand ambassador of Hyderabad in the Arab world.  Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) also ensured the proper education and instruction of the Sajjada Nasheen of shrines.

 

Hadhrat Shaykh Ul Islam (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) renovated and repopulated old mosques and constructed many new ones, the mosque in Australia and Basra being notable among them.
