The superiority and excellence of the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah

The superiority and excellence of the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah

Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) has expressed the superiority and excellence of the first 10 nights of Dhul Hijjah by swearing by them in these verses of Surah Fajr:

P By the Nights twice five; Surah Fajr (89:2)

There is a Hadith in Jame' Tirmidhi:

Translation of Hadith: It has been narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be well pleased with him) and he narrates from the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) that He said: The worship of the first 10 nights of Dhul Hijjah is more liked by Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) than the worship of other days. 1 fast in this month has the reward of fasting for the whole year and worship of 1 night in Dhul Hijjah has the reward of standing up in worship for the whole year.

(Jame' Tirmidhi, Vol. 1, Pg No. 158, Hadith No: 763)

In "Al Ghunya Li Talibi tariqil haqqi " has a narration by Hadhrat Aisha Siddiqua (May Allah be well pleased with her):

Whoever enlivens a night of the first 10 nights of Dhul Hijjah with worship will get the reward of performing Haj that year and the reward of performing Umrah for the whole year and whoever fasts for a day in it has like worshipped Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) for the whole year.

(Al Ghunya Li Talibi tariqil haqqi, Vol. 2, Pg No. 25)

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:

When the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah start, perform worship of Allah Ta'ala, as these are the days, which Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala) has granted superiority and has made its night sacred as its day.

(Al Ghunya Li Talibi tariqil haqqi, Vol. 2, Pg No. 25)

It has been narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Anas Bin Malik (May Allah be well pleased with him) that the every day of the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah is equal to 100 days in reward and the day of 'Arafah has the greatness of 10,000 days.

(At Targhib Wat Tarhib, Vol. 2, Pg No. 200)

As in these blessed days, Haj is performed and the Haji are in Ihram, it is Mustahab (commendable) for those who offer Qurbani to adopt a kind of resemblance with them and refrain from cutting nails and cutting/shaving hair until offering the Qurbani.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has ordered us not to cut nails and cut/shave hair in these days: There is a Hadith in Sahih Muslim, Vol. 2, Pg No. 160:

Translation of Hadith: It has been narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Umar bin Muslim (May Allah be well pleased with him), he said that I heard Hadhrat Sae'eed Bin Jubair (May Allah be well pleased with him), he said: I heard from Ummul Momineen Hadhrat Umme Salme (May Allah be well pleased with him), she said: The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: The person who has an animal for Qurbani, should on seeing the moon of Dhul Hijjah, refrain from cutting (or shaving) his (or her) hair and nail until he (or she) performs Qurbani.

From the Fajr of the 9th Dhul Hijjah to the 'Asr of the 13th, the Muslims should observe Takbir Tashreeq also.

Fast in the beginning days of Dhul Hijjah or at least on the 9th, which has much excellence.

Those whose wealth reaches the prescribed limits (Sahab Nisab) should compulsorily offer Qurbani.

Those who cannot offer Qurbani, if they also have a hair cut and cut their nails on Eid, then they too will get the reward of a complete Qurbani.
