The Holy Quran ought to be respected and revered

The Holy Quran is the pure, unadulterated Word of Allah Most High which is the fountain of divine guidance and a great treasure for the whole of humanity.  Its verses are themselves guidance and cure.  Respect and reverence of the Holy Quran is binding on everyone, as respect of the signs of Allah has been declared to be piety of the heart.

Nowadays, to distress Muslims and to hurt their faith, the enemies of Islam are trying to belittle the Holy Quran.  At some places, the Holy Quran is being burnt.  At others, the pages of the Holy Quran are being used as packing for crackers.  From various places, saddening incidents of disrespect of the Holy Quran are being reported.  In such a situation, it is our duty that we make efforts to stop these kinds of incidents from happening.

These are the words of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi Qadri, Professor, Islamic Law, Jamia Nizamia, Founder-Director, Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center, in the weekly lecture held at Masjid Abul Hasanaat under the aegis of Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center.

The revered Mufti said that the Holy Quran is such that nothing can equal it.  The world is awed by its eloquence.  For this reason, the whole world has been challenged to cooperate and bring one verse which is similar to the Holy Quran, but all the poets, litterateurs, linguists, etc. of the world have been unable to take up this challenge and will be unable to do so until the Day of Judgment.  This Divine Word will remain shining in all this glory until the Day of Judgment dawns.

The revered Mufti said that a true Muslim respects not only the Holy Quran but also each and every sign of Allah Most High.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) respected the Torah, although its contents have been tampered with.  However, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) respected it because of its relationship with Allah Most High as quoted by the revered Mufti from Sunan Abu Dawood.

The revered Mufti said that Islam is that cultured way of life which forbids one from speaking ill of other people’s gods.  Almighty Allah says in the Holy Quran:

And, (O Muslims,) do not abuse these (false gods) these (polytheists) worship besides Allah, lest these people should (also, in retaliation,) revile against Allah’s Glory wrongfully due to ignorance.  Surah An’aam (6:108)

When a Muslim doesn’t ever insult anybody else’s religion, then how does any other person get the right to disrespect the Holy Quran?  Disrespecting the Holy Quran is a grave crime and is simply unacceptable and unbearable.

The courage of the enemies of Islam who commit such acts has increased because unwittingly some Muslims also end up disrespecting the Holy Quran.  This is a conspiracy to gradually wipe out the respect of divine signs from the hearts of Muslims.  First, touching the Holy Quran without Wudhu was declared permissible.  Then the Holy Quran was kept on legs and recited.

The revered Mufti said that it is the responsibility of Muslims to respect the Holy Quran not only outwardly but inwardly as well.  The Holy Quran shouldn’t be simply kept in shelves, but it should be read and lives should be led as per the commands and decrees of the Holy Quran.

The session ended with Salaam and Dua.  Maulana Hafidh Syed Ahmed Ghouri, Teacher, Jamia Nizamia, led the proceedings.
