Company of pious people transforms a person

Almighty Allah has mentioned the greatness and high status of the saints in the Holy Quran.  The Lord Almighty has mentioned their attributes and accomplishments.  They had devoted their lives to reforming the populace and the propagation of Islam.  They wouldn’t pay any attention to the calumny and slander of any one and nor would fear any other power.  They adorned the seekers of the Ultimate Truth with the sciences of the Shariah and purified the hearts of the seekers.  Their hearts would always reverberate with the consciousness of Almighty Allah and would always resonate with the remembrance of Allah.

During the day, they would serve the populace and the nights they would spend in prostration to Allah Most High.

And (these) are the ones who spend their nights prostrating themselves and standing before their Lord (cloaked in submissiveness).  Surah Furqan (25:64)

It is mentioned in Surah Sajdah:

Their sides stay away from their beds, and they call out to their Lord in a (mingled state) of fear and hope and spend (in Our way) out of the sustenance We have provided them.  Surah Sajdah (32:16)

These are the words of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi Qadri, Professor, Islamic Law, Jamia Nizamia, Founder-Director, Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center, in the weekly lecture organized under the aegis of AHIRC at Masjid Abul Hasanaat, Jahanuma.

The revered Mufti said that we should make ourselves aware of the teachings of the saints and should also spend our time in company with them as because of the blessings of staying in the company of the saints, the character is reformed.

The revered Mufti quoted the following verse of Surah Tauba:

O believers! Fear Allah persistently and remain in the (company) of those who uphold the truth.  Surah Tauba (9:119)

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  Shall I not tell you that thing through which you will gain the good of this world and the hereafter?  Make the company of the people of Dhikr (remembrance of Allah) compulsory on yourself.

The revered Mufti said that all the time we should be conscious of the fact that Almighty Allah is seeing us and is aware of not only our actions and deeds but also the thoughts that cross our minds and hearts.  Through this, a person can be safe from sins.

He also said that we should have the fear of Allah in our hearts and along with it the hope of His mercy should also be there.  For this reason, in Surah Fatiha immediately after mentioning His mercy, Almighty Allah has mentioned that He is the Lord and Master of the Day of Judgment so that one has hope of Allah’s mercy as well as the fear of being taken to task.

Imam Zain Ul A’abideen (May Allah be well pleased with him) was offering Salaat.  Suddenly a fire broke out in the house.  People called out to him, but he remained busy in Salaat.  After finishing his Salaat, people informed him that a fire had broken out in his house.  He said:  You were putting out the fire of this world and I was putting out the fire of the hell.  The fire of hell is more intense than the fire of this world.

The session ended with Salaam and Dua.  Maulana Hafidh Syed Ahmed Ghouri, Teacher, Jamia Nizamia, led the proceedings.
