The passing away of Hadhrat Imam Rabbani (May Allah be well pleased with him)

In Shab Baraat of that year, Hadhrat Imam Rabbani (May Allah shower His mercy on him) had expressed that his demise is in that year itself.  While returning to his house after performing Salaat Ul Eid of Ed Al Azha, the Imam said:  Like the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), my age also will be 63 years.  The time for this has come.  It is compulsory for all of you to obey the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).

Within 4, 5 days, he started having attacks of breathlessness (asthma).  On 12th Muharram 1032 Hijri, the Imam expressed how many days of his earthly life were left.  Hadhrat Imam Rabbani (May Allah shower His mercy on him) visited his father’s grave and meditated there for a long time.  He supplicated a lot for the forgiveness of the other deceased who were in that graveyard.  From there, he visited the blessed grave of his forefather, Hadhrat Rafiuddin (May Allah shower His mercy on him).  There also he meditated for a long time and then returned home.

On 22nd Safar, the Imam said that Almighty Allah had granted him all that could be granted to a human being.  Everybody was affected by his imminent departure.  The next day, he distributed all his clothes among the poor.  The aforementioned disease assailed him now.  One night before his demise, the Imam sat up with much difficulty and described the divine secrets that were revealed to him.

The Imam offered Tahajjud that night.  He offered Salaat Ul Fajr with congregation.  After that, he was repeating a Hindi couplet which meant:

Today, I am meeting that friend for whom I would forego the whole world.

After Salaat Ul Ishraaq, the Imam recited supplications mentioned in the Holy Quran and the Hadith.  He would also busy himself in meditation.  He was lying on the bed with his blessed face towards the Qibla.  He placed his right hand below his chin and busied himself in Dhikr.  When his son saw that his breathing had become more marked, he asked him how was he.  The Imam replied:  Fine.  The 2 Raka’at that I have offered are enough.  These were his last words.  After this, the Imam only repeated “Allah, Allah”.

His passing away

On 28th Safar, 1034 Hijri, at the time of Ishraaq, the Imam passed away into the presence of Allah.

It has been related that the earth and the sky cried that day.  The crying of the sky is its reddening in 4 all horizons.  In the same way, it is mentioned in “Sharh Sadr” that when the Imam was being given the funeral bath, his hands were wound together like it is done for Salaat.  They were unwound a number of times, but they would return to the same position.  There was smile on his face.
