Imam Rabbani - A beacon of guidance for the Ummah

The religion granted to us through the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) will remain right until the Day of Judgment by virtue of its universality, its comprehensiveness and its principles based on fairness and justice.

To protect and propagate this religion, Almighty Allah has sent such great personalities throughout the course of history who are the saviors of Islamic law and the Shariah.  One pole star among them is Imam Rabbani Mujaddid Alf Thaani Hadhrat Shaykh Ahmed Sirhindi Farooqui (May Allah shower His mercy on him).

Almighty Allah made him an outstanding scholar, a leader in both Shariah and Tariqa and selected him for service of Islam.

Using all his distinctions and knowledge, he fulfilled the great responsibility of guiding and reforming the Ummah.  His primary aim was safeguarding the faith and setting right of deeds.  His letters (Maktoobaat-e-Imam Rabbani) are still a beacon of guidance for the whole Ummah.

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) had given glad tidings of his coming.  There is a Hadith in Jam’ Ul Jawame’ and in Kanz Ul ‘Ummal that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  There will be a person in my Ummah who will be called the “Silah” (the one who joins the creation with the creator).  Through his intercession, innumerable people will enter paradise.

It is mentioned in another Hadith that he will have a great radiance.  His name will be after my name and he will be sent between 2 tyrants.

These are the words of Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi, Professor, Islamic Law, Jamia Nizamia, Founder-Director, Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center in the weekly lecture at Masjid Abul Hasanaat which is held under the aegis of Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center.

The Mufti said that Hadhrat Mujaddid Alf Thaani had raised the standard of truth in such a time when Emperor Akbar had presented a new religion, Din-e-Ilahi, against Islam.  Mosques and Madarsas were demolished.  There was a prohibition of slaughtering animal as per Islamic precepts.  On the other hand, there was no prohibition on wine and the like.  The symbols of Islam were being removed.  The Shariah was being ignored and false ideals were being preached.  It was obligatory on every person entering the court to prostrate to the king.

Hadhrat Imam Rabbani (May Allah shower His mercy on him) expended all his energies to safeguard Islam.  He spent every moment of his life in propagating Islam and in reforming the Ummah.

The Mufti said that Hadhrat Imam Rabbani (May Allah shower His mercy on him) ignited the spirit of faith in millions in an era of irreligiousness and religious lassitude.

The great Imam adorned the people with manners and character, cleaned their selves (Nafs) and purified their hearts.  For propagation, he used the method of wisdom (Hikmah).  He wrote to the advisors of the emperor inviting them to truth.

The religious and social services of Imam Rabbani cannot ever be ignored or forgotten.  He is the reviver (Mujaddid) of the second millennium and is the intimate disciple of Hadhrat Khwaja Baqibillah (May Allah shower His mercy on him).  He is also a great son of Hadhrat ‘Umar Al Farooq (May Allah be well pleased with him).  He is Hadhrat ‘Umar’s (May Allah be well pleased with him) descendent through 28 generations.

The revered Mufti said that many miracles were expressed at his hands.  Once during rain he ordered the cloud not to pour any rain until such and such a time and rain stopped for that entire time.

He was so meticulous in following the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) that he never missed any Sunnah, be it at home or while traveling.  Even in his period of imprisonment, he would offer Salaat Ul Juma’a in the grand mosque.  Nobody could understand when he would go and when he would come back.

The revered Mufti said that his services to Islam are exemplary.  He opposed the forces of falsehood with great courage.  For this, he had to bear the tribulations of a prison term.  Even in prison, he continued his mission.  It was due to his efforts and his education and instruction that all those prisoners who were habitual criminals of the worst order, repented and became of men of Allah thereafter.

It is our responsibility that the way Imam Rabbani (May Allah shower His mercy on him) performed the duty of enjoining the good and forbidding evil, we should also act upon his teachings and make our society a garden of peace.

The session ended with Salaam and Dua.  Maulana Hafidh Syed Ahmed Ghouri, Teacher, Jamia Nizamia, led the proceedings.
