Reciting Durood and Salaam

Reciting Durood and Salaam

Allah the Most Merciful has Himself ordered us to present our Durood (Greetings) and Salaam (Salutations) to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  As given in Surah Ahzaab:

Translation:- Surely, Allah the Merciful and (all) His angls send blessings and greetings on the Holy Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon Him).  O believers!  Invoke blessings on Him and salute him with a worthy salutation of peace abundantly (and fervently).

The Fuqaha (Experts of Islamic Law) have clarified that reciting Durood once in the whole lifetime is Fardh and reciting it in the assembly where the blessed name of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) is mentioned is Wajib.  Apart from this, reciting Durood and Salaam on other occasions, as per convenience, is Mustahab (Commendable).  There is much excellence in reciting Durood and Salaam and there are innumerable rewards and benefits in reciting it.

Imam Tabarani (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) has mentioned a Hadith in Mo'jam Ausat in which the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) says: Aameen 3 times.  One among them is about Ramadhan and the second is about the parents.  Only the third is being mentioned here.

Translation of Hadith:- Hadhrat Jibreel (Peace be upon him) came to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and said:- May Allah the Most Beneficent ruin that person who does not recite Durood when Your Blessed name is mentioned before him (or her) and the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Aameen.
