Imam Hasan

Imam Hasan (May Allah be well pleased with him), the grandson of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi w sallam), the leader of young men of Jannah, the chief of the pious, whose blessed name is “Hasan” and whose Kunniyah is Abu Muhammad (May Allah be well pleased with him).

His birth:

Imam Jalaluddin Suyuti (May Allah be well pleased with him) has written in “Tarikh Ul Khulafa” that Imam Hasan (May Allah be well pleased with him) was born on 15th Ramadhan, 3 Hijri.  (Tarikh UL Khulafa, Vol. 1, Pg. No. 76)

His blessed name:

As per the Hadith in Mo’jam Kabeer Tabarani, Hadhrat Ali (May Allah be well pleased with him) had named Imam Hasan as Hamza and Imam Hussain as Jafar, but the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) kept their names as Hasan and Hussain.  (Mo’jam Kabeer Tabarani, Hadith No. 2713)

Hasan and Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with them) are both heavenly names

Hasan and Hussain are both heavenly names and before Islam, the Arabs had not used these names.  As given As Sawaaiqul Muhriqa, Pg. No. 115 and Tarikh Ul Khulafa, Vol. 1, Pg. No. 115.

When Imam Hasan (May Allah be well pleased with him) was born, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said the Adhaan in his ears, as given in Mo’jam Kabeer Tabarani, Hadith No. 2515.

As given in Sunan Abu Dawood, Pg. No. 392, Hadith No. 2843, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) slaughtered a goat each in the Aqqeqa of the Imams Hasan and Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with them).

His beauty:

It is given in Sahih Bukhari on the authority of Hadhrat Anas bin Malik (May Allah be well pleased with him) that no one resembled the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) more than Imam Hasan (May Allah be well pleased with him). (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 3752)

The Prophet’s special grant:

As per the Hadith in Mo’jam Kabeer Tabarani, Hadhrat Fatima (May Allah be well pleased with her) took both the princes to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) in His final illness and asked Him to give them something special from His inheritance.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Hasan is the inheritor of my resemblance and leadership and Hussain is the inheritor of my fearlessness and courage.  (Mo’jam Kabeer Tabarani, Hadith No. 18474)

There is a Hadith in Sahih Bukhari and Jame’ Tirmidhi that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) graced the pulpit.  Imam Hasan (May Allah be well pleased with him) was beside Him.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) would turn to the people some and turn to Imam Hasan (May Allah be well pleased with him) some.  He (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: This son of mine is a leader.  Indeed! Through him, Allah Ta’ala will affect a truce between 2 great groups of Muslims.  (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 2704; Jame’ Tirmidhi, Hadith No. 4142)

The Imams are the beauty of Jannah:

There is a Hadith in Mo’jam Ausat and Kanz Ul Ummal that after everyone who has to enter Jannah will enter Jannah, then the Jannah will remind Allah Ta’ala of His promise to adorn her.  Then Allah Ta’ala will tell Jannah that He has given Imams Hasan and Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with them) to her.  On this Jannah will pride herself like a bride.

Mo’jam Ausat, Hadith No. 343

Jame Ul Ahadith, Hadith No. 1331

Jame Ul Kabeer, Hadith No. 1342
