Need to adopt the methods of Hadhrat Khwaja Ghareebnawaz

Hadhrat Khwaja-E-Khwajagan Ghareebnawaz Moinuddin Hasan Chishti (May Allah Ta’ala shower His mercy on him) spread the teachings of Islam in the best possible manner.  People became truthful and pure of character on seeing his truthfulness and purity of character.  People became the very models of pure character by seeing his patience, his lofty manners and the way he helped people.  On a single journey of his from Delhi to Ajmer, 90 lakhs, i.e. 9 million people embraced Islam.

Need to adopt the methods of the Khwaja

Today there is a need to adopt the methods of Hikmah (wisdom) to spread the message of Islam.  To do this, we must adopt the methods used by our pious masters who came before us.  Khwaja Ghareebnawaz spread the light of Islam and the message of love in India.  When he came to India, he did not have any powerful army.  He was armed with the character of the Prophet, Hadhrat Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) & the teachings of Islam.

The teachings of the Khwaja

Hadhrat Ghareebnawaz would mention the verses of the Holy Quran, the Hadith of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and the sayings of the saints and the elders to reform people.  People would benefit as per their own capability.  In his assembly, people would be invited towards, Shariah, Tariqah and Ma’arifah.  They would be taught Fardh, Sunnah, worship (Ibadaat), truthfulness, fear of Allah Ta'ala, purity (Taharah) and helping people.  He stressed performing Fardh and Sunnah and once quoted a great Faqih: Everyday an angel calls out and says: The person who does not perform the Fardh of Allah Ta’ala is removed from Allah's forgiveness.  Another angel calls out: The person who leaves one Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) will not benefit from the Shafa’at (intercession) of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).

Hadhrat Ghareebnawaz (May Allah Ta’ala shower His Mercy on him) said: The soul (Ruh) who sleeps with Wuzu is taken by the angels below the ‘Arsh of Allah Ta'ala.  Allah Ta’ala orders that the soul be given a robe of Noor and the person who sleeps without Taharah, the angels drop his soul from the first heaven itself.

It was the custom of Hadhrat Ghareebnawaz (May Allah Ta’ala shower His Mercy on him) that apart from Ramadhan, in other days, he would finish 2 complete recitations of the Holy Quran in a day and night and each time, a voice would he heard: We accept it.

In the light of the Hadith, the Khwaja said: The person who looks into the Holy Quran and reads, that person is awarded 2 rewards; one of reading it and the other of looking into it.  For each letter, 10 virtues are given and 10 sins are wiped out.

The divine insight of the Khwaja

A person came to the Khwaja posing as his disciple, but his real intention was to harm the Khwaja.  The Khwaja learned of his intention and said: A dervish comes to other Dervish to purify the heart and not to harm.  Do what you have come for.  On hearing this, that person threw away a dagger which he had hidden in his sleeve and became a true disciple of the Khawajah.  With the blessings of the Khawajah and his company, that person performed 45 Haj and as per another version 55 Haj.

The Khwaja would personally help the poor

The Emperor of India, Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti (May Allah Ta’ala shower His mercy on him) would help the needy, the poor, the widows and orphans.  Everyday after the Salaat Ul Ishraq, he would help the old woman and the widows of his own locality.  It is mentioned among his sayings (Malfoozat): Allah Ta’ala fulfils a thousand needs of the person who feeds the hungry.  That person is freed from hell and a palace is prepared in heaven for that person.  There is no obedience of Allah Ta’ala more than helping the weak, the needy and feeding the hungry.

For this reason, daily so much food would be cooked in his kitchen that all the poor and hungry people would eat as much as they wanted.  When the attendants of his Khanqah would ask for expenses, the Khwaja would lift a corner of his prayer mat and tell them to take as much as they needed.

Hadhrat Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki (May Allah Ta’ala shower His mercy on him) says about his generosity: I have never seen anybody turning back disappointed from his door.
