The Sahabah would celebrate the Milad of the Holy Prophet

Allah Ta’ala has greatly distinguished the birth of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  To express His greatness, Allah Ta’ala sent down incalculable mercy at the time, so much that that year began to be called was called the year of happiness.

Makkah is a great center of spirituality.  Here many signs of Allah Ta’ala’s power exist, but Allah Ta’ala did not swear by this because of all this.  But when the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) was born and He took up residence in Makkah, then Allah Ta’ala swore by it in His Pure Word.  Allah Ta’ala says:

I swear by this city (Makka),

(O My Esteemed Beloved,) because you are residing in it.   Surah Balad (1-2)

Mufti Syed Ziauddin Naqshbandi Qadri, Naib Shaykh Ul Fiqh, Jamia Nizamia and Founder/Director Abul Hasanaat Islamic Research Center, expressed these thoughts about the Milad in the lecture at Masjid Abul Hasanaat, Phool Bagh, Jahanuma, Hyderabad.

He also said that at the time of Milad, a voice was heard from the Ka’aba: Now my Noor (radiance) will be returned to me.  People will come to visit me.  Now I will be cleaned from the uncleanliness of ignorance.  The Ka’aba kept swaying for 3 days out of happiness of Milad.  (Khasaais-e-Kubra, Vol. 1, Pg. No. 80)

A voice was heard from the Ka’aba: The Milad of the Master of the universe (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has occurred, with whose very existence the darkness of disbelief (Kufr) has been dispelled.

Allah Ta’ala ordered the angels to open the doors of Jannah and assemble on the earth.  At the time of Milad, all the devils were imprisoned.  (Khasaais-e-Kubra, Vol. 1, Pg. No. 80)

All the idols fell flat on their faces.  The great holy fire of Persia was extinguished.  There was an earthquake in the palaces of the Khosroe (the rulers of Persia) and a great river called “Saawa” suddenly dried up.

The great Muhaddith, Imam Jalaluddin Abdur Rahman Bin Abi Bakr Suyuti (Deceased-911 Hijri) (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) in his famous book "Khasaais Kubra" and by the interpreter of Sahih Bukhari, Imam Ahmed Bin Muhammad Qustullani (Deceased-923 Hijri) in "Mawahib Al Ladunniya".

Translation of Hadith:  Syeda Amina (May Allah be well pleased with her) says: I saw that at the time of His birth, 3 flags were placed: One in the east, another in the west and the third on the Ka'aba.

(Khasaais Ul Kubra, Vol. 1, Pg No. 57; Mawahib Al Ladunniya, Vol. 1, Pg No. 125)

The Pure Prophet arrived in this world to clean the world of the filth of Kufr and shirk.  His mother states about Him that He (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) arrived perfect in every way and there was not even a smudge or stain on Him. (Mawahib Ladunniya, Vol 1, Pg No: 220).  Fragrance issued forth from His body and He had arrived circumcised and with “Surma” under His eyes. (Seerat Halbiya, Vol 1, Pg No: 53)

Mufti Sahab quoted a reference from Musnad Imam Ahmed that at the time of Milad, such a Noor was expressed that the mansions of Syria became visible.  (Musnad Imam Ahmed, Hadith No. 17615)

Mufti Sahab said that the Sahabah would talk about the Milad of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  There is a Hadith in Mustadrak of Imam Hakim, Mo’jam Kabeer of Imam Tabarani and In Majma Uz Zawaaid of Imam Haithami that Hadhrat Abbas (May Allah be well pleased with him) asked the Holy Prophet’s permission to praise and extol Him: I want to glorify and praise you.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: You praise me.  May Allah beautify your face.  Hadhrat Abbas (May Allah be well pleased with him) recited some couplets.  Among them are:

When you were born,

The earth became illuminated and radiant

and with your Noor,

the very horizons were illuminated.

(Mo’jam Kabeer Tabarani, Hadith No. 4057; Mustadrak Alas Sahihain, Hadith No. 5426)

Mufti Sahab said that when the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) listened to these couplets and blessed Hadhrat Abbas (May Allah be well pleased with him), then these do not remain mere poetry and become the Shariah itself.

Mufti Sahab said that we should follow the rules of the Shariah in celebrating the Milad of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).  Feeding people, reciting Durud and Salaam and organizing Milad celebrations are all permissible.
