Some questions about Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him)

Is it correct to say that Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him) is the foundation of faith

The Emperor of India, Hadhrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti (May Allah shower His Mercy on him) has written a couplet in honor of Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him).  The last line of that couplet is:

Haqqa ke binaae laa ilaaha…. Ast Hussain

It is correct to take the meaning of the word “Binaa” as structure or as base/foundation.  The meaning here is that the forces of falsehood and Yazeed, the accursed, had expended all efforts to strike at the very base of Islam, but Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him) became the very foundation of truth and defended Islam.  Islam is based on his great sacrifice and will remain so until the end of time.

The Hadith mention knowledge, Salaat, etc. as the structure and/or foundation of Islam.  Neither is it correct to consider Islam as an actual structure nor to consider knowledge, Salaat, etc. as actual foundations.  These are metaphors to aid understanding.

Do the Hadith mention the name of the man who martyred Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him)

The Hadith don’t mention clearly who is the person who would martyr Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him).  The books of history mention that a person called Shimar was the person who martyred Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him).

There is a Hadith narrated on the authority of Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him), which gives an indication about this.  This Hadith is mentioned in Jame' Ul Ahadith, Jam Ul Jawame', Kanz Ul Ummal, Al Khasais Ul Kubra, Bidayah Wan Nihayah, Mukhtasar Tarikh Damishq.

Please see the wording mentioned in Jame' Ul Ahadith of Imam Suyuti.

Translation of Hadith:  It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Muhammad bin ‘Amr bin Hasan (May Allah be well pleased with him), he said: We were with Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him) near the stream of Karbala.  There, when Imam Hussain (May Allah be well pleased with him) saw Shimar.  He said: Allah Ta'ala and His Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) have said the truth.  The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: It is as if I am seeing the dog with white spots, who is putting its snout in the blood of my Ahle Bait.  There were white spots on Shimar because of leprosy.  (Jame' Ul Ahadith, Hadith No. 37510, Jam Ul Jawame', Hadith No. 476)
