The demise of Hadhrat Abu Dharr (May Allah be well pleased with him)

The demise of Hadhrat Abu Dharr

(May Allah be well pleased with him)

‘Allama Ibn Atheer has written in Tareekh Al Kaamil that in 32 Hijri when the time of Hadhrat Abu Dharr’s (May Allah be well pleased with him) demise drew close, he told to his daughter:  Do you see anyone coming?  She said:  No.  He said:  Then my time has not yet come.

Then he said:  Slaughter a goat and cook its meat.  A group of pious folk will come and they will bury me.  When they are done with burying me, you tell them: Abu Dharr has sworn you to not mount your animals unless you have eaten this food.

When the meat was cooked, Hadhrat Abu Dharr (May Allah be well pleased with him) again asked his daughter:  See, is anyone coming?  She said: Yes.  A lot of riders are coming.  Hadhrat Abu Dharr (May Allah be well pleased with him) said:  Now seat me facing the Qibla.  When it was done, he said:  Bismillah Wa Billah Wa ‘Ala Millati Rasoolillahi Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam and with this his soul departed towards the spiritual realms.

His daughter went to the riders and said:  May Allah have Mercy on you.  Please enshroud and bury Abu Dharr.  They asked:  Where is he?  She indicated where.  They said:  Praise be to Allah!  He has granted us this honor of offering his Funeral Salaat.

In that group, Hadhrat ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud (May Allah be well pleased with him) and many other pious folk were present.  Hadhrat ‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud (May Allah be well pleased with him) cried and said:  The Prophet had told the truth:  Abu Dharr will die alone and will be resurrected alone.

Then the body was washed, enshrouded and Funeral Salaat was offered.  When they were leaving after the burial, the daughter of Hadhrat Abu Dharr (May Allah be well pleased with him) said:  He has sworn you to have food and then leave.  Everyone wholeheartedly accepted this and left after eating.
