f:971 -    Reciting Surah in Sunnah Salaat

Question:     What is the method of offering 4 Raka'at of Sunnah Salaat?  Is it necessary to recite another Surah after Surah Fatiha like in Fardh Salaat?

Answer:     In Fardh, it is Wajib (Compulsory) in the first 2 Raka'at to recite Surah Fatiha and another Surah after it.  In the remaining Raka'at, reciting Surah Fatiha is Mustahab (Commendable).  There is no command about another Surah.  

Apart from Fardh, be it any other Salaat, it is Wajib to recite Surah Fatiha and another Surah in all 4 Raka'at.  Thus, you should recite another Surah after Surah Fatiha in all 4 Raka'at of Sunnah Salaat.
