f:928 -    Can a wife visit her parents
 Country : Aurangabad, India,
Name : Kazi Mohammed
Question:     I want my wife to not visit her parents because of their ill behavior to my father and myself.  I told my father In law several times to be generous and kind towards my family but it is always in vain. My father, mother & me do not want my wife to visit her Parents.

Is it righteous from my part to only allow my wife to visit her parents once in a year for 2 days?  What should my wife do about this as she wants to visit?  We both need your kind help because it is causing differences between us?  What should I do if my wife opposes me?

Answer:     As per the Shariah, the wife has the right to visit her parents now and then as per the customs of that place.  Thus, you don’t have the right to stop her from meeting her parents.

Muslims should treat each other nicely.  The parents of your wife should also treat your parents as it befits a Muslim to treat another Muslim.  There is a Hadith about this:

Translation: It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (May Allah be well pleased with him), he says that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  Those who have the most perfect faith are those whose manners are the best of all.  (Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith No. 4684)

And Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala) knows best.
