Question:     Assalamalaikum, I wanna know conditions for istikhara namaz.  Please provide best answer,
............................................................................
Answer:     Istikhara means to ask for what is good.  Upon performing Istikhara, the worshipper is guided towards the good.  There is a Hadith in Jame' Tirmidhi about Istikhara.

Translation of Hadith:  It has been narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him), that he said that the Prophet (Sallallahu aaihi wa sallam) used to exhort us to perform Istikhara in all of our important affairs as if He (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) were teaching us a Surah (chapter) of the Holy Quran."

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  When anyone of you decides to do something, he should offer 2 Raka'at of Salaat apart from the Obligatory (Fardh) Salaat.  Then recite this Du'a:

Allahumma Innee Astaheeruka Bi ‘Ilmika Wa Astaqdiruka Biqudratika Wa Asaluka Min Fadlikal ‘Azeemi Fainnaka Taqdiru Wa La Aqdiru Wa Talamu Wa La Aalamu Wa Anta ‘Allamul Ghuyubi.  Allahumma In Kunta Taalamu Anna Hazal 'Amra Khairullee Fi Deenee Wa Ma’eeshatee Wa ‘Aqibatee 'Amree wa A’ajilihee Fa Yassirhulee Summa Bariklee Fihi Wa 'In Kunta Ta’alamu Anna Hazal 'Amra Sharrullee Fi Deenee Wa Ma’eeshatee Wa ‘Aaqibati 'Amree Aw Qala Fi ‘Aajili 'Amree Wa ‘Aajilihee Fasrifhu ‘Annee Wasrifnee ‘Anhu Waqdur Liyal Khaira Haisu Kana Summa Ardhinee Bih. (Jame' Tirmidhi, Hadith No. 442)

Translation: O Allah I supplicate You for what is good, through Your Knowledge.  I ask You to empower me through Your Power.  And I ask You of your great benevolence.  Because only You have (absolute) power and I don't have any.  Only You know and I don't know.  You know the unknowable.  O Allah, if this affair is good for my religion (Deen), good for my life and for the conclusion of my affairs, then destine it for me and ease it for me and make it prosperous for me.  If in Your knowledge, this affair is harmful for my religion, my life and for the conclusion of my affairs, then turn it away from me and turn me away from it.  Grant me good wherever it is for me and make me contented."

Then he should present his wish/need.

There are 2 Raka’at in Salaat Ul Istikhara.  In its first Raka’at, Surah Kafirun and in the second Raka’at Surah Ikhlaas must be recited.  It is given in Radd Ul Muhtaar “The chapter of Witr and the number of Raka’at in Salaatul Istikhara” Pg no- 507/508:

There are various indications of Istikhara.  Sometimes, it is through dreams.  Sometimes the circumstances themselves indicate it.  If that affair is better, then one feels an inclination towards it.  Ways and means of getting this affair fulfilled are provided.  Difficulties and complexities regarding this affair are dispelled and if that affair is bad for one then there are difficulties in this affair being fulfilled.  In a dream if the colors white or green or light/illumination are seen in the dream then that affair is good for him.  If red or black color is seen, then that affair should be avoided.  As given in Radd Ul Muhtaar, Kitab Us Salaat.

And Allah knows best.
