f:800 -    Being ungrateful to others
Country : Hyd, India,
Name : Abdul Rab
Question:     Assalam alikum mufti sahab!what does quran and hadith says of a person who does not appreicate a persons favour(ehsaan).instead of thanking, he/she forgets  the favour(ehsaan) done to him and says negative about that person infront of people.thankyou.
............................................................................
Answer:     We should be thankful to the person who does us a favor.  Islam does not teach us to be ungrateful.  It is given in a Hadith:

Translation: Whoever is not thankful to the people cannot be thankful to Allah Most High as well.  (Jame' Tirmidhi, 2082; Kanz Ul Ummal, Hadith No. 6443)

Speaking ill about someone behind their back, provided what they are saying is true, is called "Gheebah" (backbiting) and the person who does it is a sinner.  It is a grave sin.  Allah Ta'ala says in the Holy Quran:

…..nor backbite one another. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it. And fear Allah (in all such matters).

Thus, both being ungrateful and backbiting should be desisted from.

And Allah Most High knows best.
