f:784 -    Wearing slippers, etc. in an under-construction mosque
Country : Bengaluru, India,
Name : Ali Ullah Qureshi
Question:     An old Masjid is being reconstructed.  The old structure has been completely dismantled.  Salaat is going on in a corner of the Masjid.  Some people are coming with their shoes/slippers up to the area of the Masjid where the construction materials are being kept.  Is this correct?
............................................................................
Answer:     A mosque is a place of worshipping and making remembrance of Allah Most High.  Keeping it clean is highly necessary.  As given in Fatawa A'alamgiri:

Translation: A mosque should be kept clean from filth.  (Fatawa A'alamgiri, Vol. 5, Pg. No. 321)

When an area has been earmarked for offering Salaat, then respecting it as a mosque ought to be is compulsory, regardless of the situation, regardless of whether the previous structure has been dismantled, is still there or has been reconstructed.  During construction, the area is still a mosque and there can be no difference in its respect and reverence.  Thus, wearing shoes and slippers inside the mosque is Undesirable (Makruh).  As given in Fatawa A'alamgiri, Kitaab Ul Karahiyya.

Thus, wearing shoes/slippers to the area of the mosque where there the construction materials are kept is not correct as per the Shariah.

And Allah Most High knows best.
