f:718 -    Using kohl pot made of silver
Country : Mahboobnagar, India,
Name : submittername
Question:     I have a friend who has a hobby of collecting antique things.  A few days ago, he got a Kohl pot made of silver and is using it to apply kohl to the eyes.  I want to know can men use a silver kohl pot.
............................................................................
Answer:     All jewelry of gold and silver is permissible only for women.  For men, only a silver ring, which should be less than 3.0 grams (1 Mithqaal), can be used, as given in this Hadith, which has been recorded in Jame’ Tirmidhi, Sunan Abu Dawood, Sunan Nasai and Zujajatul Masabeeh:

Translation of Hadith: The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) told a companion:  Even your silver ring should not be of 1 Mithqaal.  (Jame’ Tirmidhi, Hadith No. 1707; Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith No. 3687; Sunan Nasai, Hadith No. 5100; Zujajatul Masabeeh, Vol. 1, Pg. No. 397).

1 Mithqaal is of 3.03775 grams in contemporary measurements.  As far as utensils are concerned, gold/silver utensils are permissible for neither men nor women.  Thus, using a silver kohl pot is impermissible in light of the Shariah.  As given in Durre Mukhtaar, Kitabul Khatri Wal Ibaha.

And Allah knows best.
