f:710 -    Does Sajda Sahw become Wajib if we stay silent in Salaat

Question:     While offering Salaat, does Sajda Sahw become Wajib if somebody stays silent for the time taken to recite 3 Tasbeeh?

Answer:     Among the reasons for the Sajda Sahw being Wajib (compulsory) is delay in performing the articles of Salaat and delay in performing what is Wajib in Salaat.  While offering the Salaat, if anyone stays silent for a time in which 1 article of Salaat can be performed, then it will be called delay of performance of article of Salaat (Takheer Rukn) or delay in performance of Wajib (Takheer Wajib).  The time taken to perform 1 article of Salaat is equal to the time taken to recite 3 Tasbeehaat shown.  Therefore if anyone stays silent for time worth 3 Tasbeehaat, then Sajda Sahw becomes Wajib.  As given in Radd Ul Muhtaar, Vol. 1, Pg. No. 558.  Also given in Minhatul Khalaiq 'Ala Bahrir Raiq, Pg. No. 473/474.
