f:706 -    Is it Makruh to offer Tahiyyatul Masjid before Salaat Ul Fajr

Question:     Is it Makruh to offer Tahiyyatul Masjid when the time for Salaat Ul Fajr starts?

Answer:     There is Hadith in Jame’ Tirmidhi about the prohibition of offering Supererogatory (Nafl) Salaat when the time for Salaat Ul Fajr starts:

Translation:  It is narrated on the authority of Hadhrat 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (May Allah be well pleased with them) that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said:  When the time for Fajr begins, except the 2 Sunnah Raka’at, no other Salaat should be offered. (Jame’ Tirmidhi, Hadith No. 421)

After the time for Salaat Ul Fajr starts, offering any Supererogatory Salaat is Undesirable (Makruh).  As Tahiyyatul Masjid is also Supererogatory, it also should not be offered.  As given in Miraqil Falah, Kitab Us Salaat.
